Shannon Beador: I Don't Have Parties to Ambush People
Shannon Beador opens up about the '70s party and shares her side of the story.
I have been on an amazing vacation in New York with my family for the last week so I apologize for the delay in my blog!
I have so many things going through my head as I think about the last episode and most of them aren't positive. I will attempt to address each point.
I thought it was a great idea to host a '70s party. Everyone always has fun coming up with costumes and the '70s has its fair share of silly and crazy styles. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect what happened that night.
Going costume shopping with the family was one of those things that you laugh about, but are also horrified with at the same time. Stella was sick and had missed a few days of school. I never thought the subject of wet dreams would come up by asking a simple question about what Stella had missed. My twins still don't really know what the concept is. A lot of people have criticized me and said that my daughters should have been stopped from continuing the conversation. If my daughters feel comfortable enough to ask any question, David and I will always listen and respond.
And now to the party. Everyone was having a great time and then Kelly, Michael and Vicki burst into the party. It was clear they had already been drinking. When I brought Kelly over to David, she called him a pedophile. I was shocked. There is nothing funny about being compared to a pedophile and I thought it was quite rude to say, especially to the host of the party. Kelly then approached Jaci, one of my friends, and asked what she was doing there. Well clearly I invited her. Heather and I had been having issues with our Home Owners Association and Jaci was very instrumental in helping us navigate through it because she lives in the same community. Jaci was at Heather's Hoedown a couple years ago.
Kelly brought up a time in the past where she ran into Jaci while on vacation. Apparently Kelly wasn't traveling with Michael and Jaci mentioned that fact. It was a very awkward moment because Michael was standing right there. I have to say that is a bit difficult for me to comprehend why Kelly is so upset. Kelly is the one that brought up the vacation right in front of Michael. If she didn't want to talk about it, she shouldn't have initiated the conversation in the first place. Everyone standing there was very uncomfortable.
Let me be clear. I had no idea that Jaci or Nina knew Kelly. Plain and simple. Jaci started to tell me a story about Kelly, and I brought Tamra into the conversation. We never even heard what the true issue was because non-stop yelling broke out. I have never in my life hosted an event with such screaming. Although Kelly is convinced that I "hijacked" her, I don't have parties to ambush people. Never have, never will. I did not know that Jaci and Nina knew Kelly, let alone have a "history" with her. I actually think it is quite egotistical for Kelly to think I would make such an effort and go through such an orchestration.
Kelly and Nina went at each other for quite some time. In fact, Kelly went after quite a few guests at the party. While I definitely would not have used the words Nina did, Kelly was right along with her in language choice. I was literally in shock. When I asked Kelly to stop, she then turned on me and then her husband joined in. They were very inebriated. I'm not quite sure why Michael was so obsessed with trying to tell me that my outfit wasn't '70s or that I looked like Mrs. Roper. Mrs. Roper was the inspiration for my costume. I was flattered that he recognized that. And by the way, Three's Company was a television show from the 1970s.
When the yelling and insults to my guests didn't stop, I asked Kelly and her husband to leave the party. I have never screamed at someone like that at an event. (Although I did storm out of a dinner party in Season 9). I have never asked someone to leave a party, but there were a lot of "firsts" for me at this event. I have never heard such cruel and horrible language come from a person's mouth as I did with Kelly. Michael wouldn't stop laying into me after Heather and Tamra both asked him to stop, so I went in to get David because I was at a loss.
And never in my wildest dreams did I think I would find David and Vicki screaming at each other in the other room. David is definitely not a fan of Vicki's after last year, and when she went up to his table of friends and announced that I was trying to create drama in the other room, David absolutely jumped to my defense. Vicki then walked up to David and put her face inches from his. She provoked him. While I do not agree with David's choice of words, I am grateful and touched that my husband was quick to defend me.
The biggest blow at the '70s party were Kelly's parting words to David that "no wonder he cheated on his wife." At this point in my life, that is the cruelest thing that someone could say to me. And to see the satisfied and proud smile on Kelly's face after she said it was chilling to me. The jaws of most people in the room dropped open after her statement and then I saw "red". I am not proud that I brought up her affair and the family she broke apart. It is not in my character to do something like that.
The debacle between Kelly and I only continues next week. Tune in to watch me see red for a second time. It is unbelievable.
