Andre Leon Talley Critiques the Potomac Housewives' Fashion
The former Vogue editor had a few harsh words for the RHOP ladies on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
On September 13, André Leon Talley graced the virtual Clubhouse on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. The fashion icon and former Vogue editor talked all things style (including a scandalous moment with Madonna) and no Bravoleb was safe from his savage style assessments — especially the ladies of The Real Housewives of Potomac.
André and RHOP cast member Ashley Darby played a "friendly" game of "Clack or Wack" in which the two guests issued their approval (clack) or disgust (wack) of a famous look worn by the RHOP ladies. And — whew — it may be summer, but the opinions were served up ice cold.
First up was Candiace Dillard Bassett's glittering denim and diamonds outfit that was the talk of her infamous cash-bar event. The gleaming strapless dress and light denim thigh boots earned an "I like it" from Andre. "I think it's very modern. The above-the-thigh boots are great."
Monique Samuels' Black Panther movement-inspired lace look with afro puffs? "CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK!" Andre said effusively (and things were right again in the world). Then came Ashley's neon yellow ensemble with bright pink accents. If you thought that Andre was inclined to hold back since she was onscreen, think again. "WACK!" he yelled. "That's savage," Ashley responded. That's the business, honey.
Gizelle Bryant's glittering jumpsuit? You guessed it. "WACK!" What about Wendy Osefo's short, curly interview '80s glam? "Wacked OUT!" said André. Even Karen's iconic pink Beyoncé tribute suit didn't please the style master.
In the end, it was Robyn Dixon's diamond tights and tux jacket look that received the last remaining stamp of approval. "Clack," he demurred, "Very good."
