Christian Siriano Found Out Michelle Obama Was Wearing His Dress in an Adorable (Totally Relatable) Way
The former FLOTUS wore the designer's dress to deliver one of her most famous speeches.
Sometimes, a mother just knows. Such was the case with Christian Siriano's mom, when she called her son to report that former first lady Michelle Obama was wearing his dress at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. The designer recounted the story during his December 19 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.
For her now iconic appearance at the convention, Obama delivered the speech that's best known for the empowering line: "when they go low, we go high." Before the former FLOTUS appeared onstage, Siriano hadn't received confirmation that she would wear the stunning blue dress he'd designed. His mother, however, was pre-tty sure of it. Watch the clip above to hear how the designer found out about his career milestone.
Because Siriano wanted Obama's words — and not his dress — to take center stage on the occasion of the DNC, he designed a low-key dress for that particular event.
But, as we saw, Obama's days as first lady also included plenty of show-stopping styles. Gold Versace dress, anyone?
