Connie Britton Shares Advice on Adopting a Child: "It's Worth Every Single Step of the Way"
The Dirty John lead has personal experience in adopting internationally.
Connie Britton, who plays an interior designer on the new limited series Dirty John, adopted her son, Eyob (whose nickname is Yoby), from Ethiopia in 2011.
"What advice do you have for people who are thinking of adopting, especially single moms?" Andy asked her when she was a guest in the Bravo Clubhouse on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
"Well, I would say just go for it and just be aware that it's challenging for sure, but it's worth every single step of the way," she said. "Adoption now is more difficult, particularly international adoption. It's very closed and hard to adopt internationally now. But domestic adoption, there are still so many great opportunities, and foster care is an incredible thing to do. So I say, especially to single mothers, just make sure you have a really good support system and don't be afraid to lean on them."
It's inspiring and important when we see public examples of the ups and downs of adoption, as in Brandi Redmond's new adoption that she's sharing on The Real Housewives of Dallas. The new comedy Instant Family has also gotten people talking about one adoption option not commonly talked about, which is the adoption of older children. Loving homes come in all shapes and sizes.
