The Dish

Tom Colicchio and Bryan Voltaggio are James Beard Finalists!

The nominations for the culinary world's version of the Oscars are in.

March 22, 2010

The finalists for this year's James Beard Awards were announced, and guess what? Our very own Tom Colicchio was nominated for Outstanding Chef and Bryan Voltaggio was nominated for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic. I have to say the quality of Tom's food goes without saying (um, Colicchio & Sons just earned three stars in The New York Times), but the food at VOLT is ridic. Although Frederick, MD is a little harder to get to than, say, New York City, it's worth the trip. My meal there was maybe one of the best I've ever had.

So, share your congrats with Tom and Bryan below, and keep your fingers crossed! The winners will be announced May 3rd.

I think you should have linked James Beard Awards and not just Beard... I don't think this is what is meant by "The best a man can get."

Looks like Kevin was a semifinalist for Rising Star Chef (under 30) but not a finalist. This blog was about the finalists--so that's why he wasn't mentioned. He'll probably get a nom next year if he's eligible for Best Southeast Chef.

Just looked at the 2010 James Beard Foundation Award nominees press release. Didn't see Kevin G's name on there. Not that he doesn't deserve a nomination (visited Atlanta last October and had my favorite meal of 2009 at Woodfire), but he might not be eligible this year--has to have been working in his state for 3 consecutive years and I believe he moved back to Atlanta in 2008 or 2009.

Bryan V... Now there's a hot dish. Yum!

You guys are awesome and I wish you all the luck in the world. Top Chef is the best show ever!

Tom, congratulations!! You obviously know what it takes. Love your show.

Bryan should have won Top Chef!

Congrats to Tom and Bryan! My husband and I would love to plan trips to MD and NYC and add dining in these restaurants to our itinerary!

Congrats to them both! I hope Bryan wins and proves he was Top Chef of last season.

I live two blocks up the street from Volt. We in Frederick are so proud. It's worth the drive and Frederick is lovely in the spring. We are cheering for Bryan and Tom!

Kevin G. was nominated too! Why doesn't that warrant a mention?

How splendid for both - congratulations and good luck!

Congrats, chefs! Couldn't happen to two nicer, classy guys.

Living in Dallas, I've only dined at Craft here, but it was a wonderful experience. Maybe a road trip up North through Maryland into NYC is in order?

Good luck in May - fingers crossed for you.

You are both amazing cooks. I miss watching you create. My best of luck at the awards. You'll both come home winners!!

Congrats to both of the them. That's amazing news.
Brian should have been the winner of TC. His baby brother won based on a better sob story (since 2 of Mike's finale courses tanked)...
