50 Shades of Decades
Christos describes his complicated relationship with Cameron.
Welcome to the wonderful wacky world of Decades. I'm blogging this from New York City where we are hosting our premiere party and freezing our behinds off!
First a little history: Decades was founded in 1997 by my biz partner, Cameron Silver. Baby Cam Cam (as I like to call him!) quickly established himself as the King of Vintage. I came along in 1999 and started the modern or consignment area of Decades. For 12 years, we toiled separately, one building, two entrances -- and then in 2011, we decided to merge.
And then I turned 50 shades of grey.
Our first episode takes you through our first merged awards season in 2012. This is our Super Bowl. It's our busiest time. And most stressful.
We are constantly on the hunt for new clothing to put on the backs of our clients. I work on consignment -- which means I don't pay for the garment until it actually sells. No risk. All reward.
I love going into ladies' closets. Does that sound funny? Well I am the Robin Hood of fashion. I take from the 1% of fashionistas and sell to the 99%. At reduced prices. The joy of resale.
Wasn't Tracey Robbins' closet sick? I mean those Chanel bags. Forget about it.
Cameron, on the other hand, is used to buying things for vintage. And it can take 15 years to find a new owner. Gulp.
I can't even bear to watch the Patricia Kennedy negotiations for her dresses. It still stresses me out!
My relationship with Cameron is complicated. First off, we are not together in the personal way. Although, there may have been a blind date back in the day. We are complete opposites. He likes to spend money. I don't. He likes to email. I like to talk. The list goes on and on. I guess that is why we have been successful.
Keep on watching the show because we leave the four doors of Decades and go to Paris, NYC, and San Francisco. And have the most amazing guest stars like Sandra Bernhard, Phyllis Diller, Max Greenfield, Ashley Madekwe, and Jody Watley all appearing.
Till next week.
Get a look.
