Philip Michael Thomas Jr., Whose Dad Was on Miami Vice, Is on Love Without Borders
Philip, who has 15 siblings, wants to forge a different path from his famous father.
The five main cast members on Bravo’s newest series, Love Without Borders, are putting all of their trust in Arica Angelo, a matchmaker who is asking each of them to pick up their lives and move overseas for the chance to find love.
On the November 30 premiere, hopeful singleton Philip Michael Thomas Jr. headed to Ghana to meet his date, Carmen Holzer-Nkrumah. While the two did instantly hit it off, Philip recognized that it wouldn’t be easy to get used to his new life.
As viewers wait to find out if Philip will choose love or a plane ticket back to the United States, they may be interested in learning more about his life (including finding out about his famous dad!).
Who is Philip Michael Thomas Jr.? Details on his background and work life
The 35-year-old is a musician in Atlanta, though he said on the premiere that he often does “odd jobs” to support himself.
When it comes to his ideal partner, Philip is on Love Without Borders to find someone he can have a family with.
As Philip explained on the show, his mom passed away when he was young (shortly after she visited Ghana to “help the Marleys build schools”), and he said his dad “really wasn’t around like that.” His older brother, Kahan, became his guardian following his mother’s death.
His relationship with his famous dad, Philip Michael Thomas, explained
On the premiere, Philip opened up about his father, who some viewers may recognize from a popular ’80s crime drama series.
“My dad is one of the biggest baby makers on the planet,” Philip said in an interview. “He is Philip Michael Thomas from the TV show Miami Vice. I have about 15 siblings — well, not about — I have 15 siblings.”
The cast member’s father played Ricardo “Rico” Tubs alongside Don Johnson’s James “Sunny” Crockett on the show, which aired from 1984 until 1990.
“Dad… he didn’t mind having kids, hence why we’re all here,” Philip continued. “But at the same time, I didn’t grow up with him like that. That makes me want to be a very present father, and that’s why I’ve been so picky about who I just have a kid with. To me, it’s not just a kid, it’s an extension of me. It’s a legacy, my child.”
His Love Without Borders match
Arica matched Philip with Carmen because they are both “artists” (Carmen is in the fashion industry), and she thought there would be “sparks and flames” between the two right from the start.
“I never really had a traditional family unit, so I’ll do almost anything to find a partner to create that,” the musician shared.
How will Philip’s journey with Carmen go? You’ll have to tune in to find out.
