Mercedes "MJ" Javid and Asa Soltan Rahmati's relationship was strained at the beginning of this season of Shahs of Sunset, and some major personal news hasn't really done much to smooth things over between the two. Yes, it seems as though Asa's pregnancy announcement has made things even more tense between the pals.
Much of their beef stems from MJ wanting Asa to be more open and transparent about her life, as she feels that the rest of the Shahs have been, especially when it came to the kaftan queen's pregnancy and her relationship with boyfriend Jermaine Jackson Jr.
In fact, MJ said that when she gets pregnant, she's going to take a completely different approach from what Asa did. "I’m telling everybody every step of everything. You know, like the doctor told me to lose weight in preparation for getting pregnant to decrease the chances of gestational diabetes and all of those things that can happen," MJ recently told Decider, adding that she wishes Asa had told "people how you really got there." "Don’t always make everything like perfect and immaculate conception. As you’ll see this season, that’s not the case. So I’m here to share my ups, my downs, my hardships, you know, the good times. Every step of it. Yeah, I mean if it hurts, if it cuts deep then I’m gonna — that’s just the way I am."
MJ went on to say that she was "shocked" when it seemed like Asa was keeping info about her pregnancy from the rest of the Shahs. "She says that she has her issues with me, but not sharing it with Reza [Farahan], someone who she’s close with, really is foreshadowing for what she’s really about. So that will also reveal itself throughout the season," MJ said. "We all go through a lot of major life moments. I think [Reza] was disappointed too because this is a joyous thing and it felt like I was meeting a stranger instead of my friend."
Asa recently told Forbes that she struggled with how much to talk about her pregnancy with MJ since she knew that her friend had been trying to have a baby of her own for years. “It was difficult to show my joy and excitement without rubbing anything in,” Asa shared. “I was conscious and wanted to be sensitive towards her feelings."
But, Asa, added, “When you’re pregnant, your tolerance for anything that isn’t important or special in your life, even if it was zero, it goes lower than that. I’ve never cared about what anyone thinks, but if you’re not happy for me... I think MJ won't find happiness until she finds peace with her major jealousy issues. She’ll find peace after that and I hope she does.”
MJ addressed the jealousy chatter when she stopped by Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen earlier this month. "This is really, for me, it's a really big deal 'cause I always wanted a sisterhood with Asa. And I feel like we got bamboozled by her and I feel like it'll unfold as you watch the episodes. But at this moment when I got my eggs frozen and I went through the process she asked me a million questions, she didn't share anything and then it was very hurtful and shocking -- like my dad was hanging on for his life and really like my dad is my rock. Nobody knows that he is my man. You don't see him, but that's my everything, so Asa's apathy toward that and then her going like this [and showing her bump], I thought, 'What is it? A new kaftan? What are you doing?'" MJ said. "So jealous, I expect the jealous thing, but Tommy [Feight] and I are planning our wedding and plan to wed and have a baby and it shouldn't be competition. It should be a friendship."
