Tom Schwartz Shares an Update on His Dad and Brother After Their Health Scares

One of the Vanderpump Rules cast member's triplet brothers, Brandon, was diagnosed with cancer in 2022.

2023 has been a tough year for Tom Schwartz, and not just because of all the drama he was embroiled in on Vanderpump Rules Season 10. It was, however, during the reunion for the show's 10th season that he opened up about why he's been struggling over the course of the last year.

How to Watch

Watch Vanderpump Rules on Bravo Tuesdays at 8/7c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app.

More specifically, on Part 1 of the Vanderpump Rules Season 10 reunion, Tom revealed that his family was going through a lot around the same time he initially separated from his now ex-wife, Katie Maloney.

He noted that it was "the most intense moment of my life" because he dealt with "almost losing my father, my brother [Brandon] with cancer, running out of money. I was f-cking in it."

Fast-forward a few months, and Tom is now sharing an update on his family. Read on for details.

A Health Update on Tom Schwartz's Brother and Dad's Health Issues

In case you need a refresher, Tom, who hails from Minnesota, has a sister, two half-sisters, a half-brother, and a set of triplet brothers named Robert "Bert," William "Billy," and Brandon (who have appeared on Vanderpump Rules several times since the show premiered in 2013).

More recently, Brandon was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Tom's father, meanwhile, found himself dealing with “near-fatal blood clots,” and “almost [died] multiple times,” the Vanderpump Rules cast member said in an interview with Rolling Stone. What’s more, his dad was apparently “given a 5 percent chance of living at one point.”

Thankfully, both family members have since "rebounded," per PEOPLE. "I'm just so grateful that everyone is healthy and stable right now," Tom told the outlet. "I know it can't last forever, but I'm savoring the moment."

What's Next for Tom Schwartz

Tom further reflected on 2023 during the December 21 episode of the Everybody Loves Tom podcast, co-hosted by his castmate Tom Sandoval and musician Jason Bader.

“I know there were some low points, and at one point I turned into a recluse and a hermit,” he said. “It got bleak for a while, but there were some good points, too.”

Now, both Toms are looking to the future — more specifically, 2024. "We’re going on vacation. Our first vacation — my first vacation since 2018,” Sandoval said. “We are going to Hong Kong, Singapore, and to Bangkok.”

“We’re eating, we’re praying, we’re loving,” Schwartz added. “We’re gonna indulge in some culture. I’m gonna eat like I’ve never eaten before. I’m probably gonna get a tattoo, like a subtle one… I never really seeked out that therapy that I was looking for this year, and I feel like I’m gonna get that from this trip. I’ve been needing to get away for a long time.”

2024 will also mark the premiere of Vanderpump Rules Season 11. Check out a trailer for what's to come at the top of this post.
