Burning Questions

The Season 1 winning designer says what's next for her, and who she considered her biggest competition.

Jul 23, 20090

Bravotv.com: After seeing how your collection came out, would you change anything?
Oh, of course. I am my own worst critic and I definitely would change many things. I think that's what keeps me moving forward to improve my collections every season. I like the idea that you evolve as a designer. I think it is the same for any fine artist as well; your style grows and changes as you learn, and you learn for the rest of your life.

Bravotv.com: How hard was it to keep your win a secret?
Thankfully I only had to wait a week until everyone found out. I enjoy the suspense honestly.

Bravotv.com: What do you think your students will say?
I have received e-mails from some of them and they are very excited. I just know that as much as I can teach them, I still have a lot to learn and achieve and it's fun that they get to be a part of that. I can't sit on my high horse at all with them; they are very cool, much cooler than me. I think also because they know that I struggle too, it becomes more of a reality for them how much you have to work at and love what you do.

Bravotv.com: What’s next for you?
Obviously I am going to put the money into my business, but how is something I still have to figure out. I want to make the clothes available and priced reasonably so that is something that will happen very soon. Stay tuned to annamccraney.com for updates!

Bravotv.com: What’s the most important thing you learned about yourself and/or your profession from the show?
Humility. A little goes a long way. I also really realized that designing is truly what I should be doing. After many stumbling blocks I have kept at it and it has

I love your colorful designing Anna. I would be proud to wear most of your outfits. Between you and Daniella I couldn't decide which should be the winner. Her collection matched best but I prefer color. James-Paul's collection blended well together but to get votes at this time in the game I think everyone needs to focus on what the majority wants. I'm glad they let Merlin and Ricco show what they could do but I really wish they had chosen Haven as well. She got a raw deal. I too would have wanted to be a designer but there was no way I could afford it. I still have a dream and I have just ordered my new professional dress form. I sure hope using the dress form is as easy as you make it look. Congratulations to you, Follow your dream and you will go far.

I'm happy for Anna, but it's sad that the "safest" collection won. I was very disappointed with the voters' and judges' decision.

You are a wonderful lady and a great role model for young designers. We are sure that your students are very proud of you. You followed everything asked of you on this show, created pretty clothes that women want and can wear and you did it all with grace and style.. You were nice to your colleagues.. unlike them.. who all were pompous, bragged, and were not nice to others who they may need to work with in their futures? That is what we didn't get.. Why were they all so loud and pompous and thinking they were "all that" and making fools of themselves on TV??

Viewer
Viewer

Congratulations!! You were the whole package for the win on this show! You did everything asked and you delivered it with grace, style, dignity and charm. Unlike the others, you showed your style without complaining or criticism of the others on the show...and it paid off. Yours were the clothes people will and can want to wear!! People make negative comments, but, ignore them.. Reco, Daniella, etc. were all too pompous and did not listen to the challenges, nor did they create clothing that women can and will wear!! YOU did that!! And, you added your flair, style, and creativity to it all. You were the whole package.. Ignore the jealous, silly comments from those who were too self-centered to see it.. Best of all to you and your future..

I think Ricco should have won!

Congrats, Anna! You took the most risks with your fabric choices, and designed the most wearable clothes for the average woman. I was pulling for you and Rico the whole way. Never could figure out why James Paul rather than Rico made it to the final - his clothes were not designed for anyone on this planet - might make a great costume designer though.

Never could figure out what Kelly Rowland knows about fashion so was not surprised that Danielle was the judges choice. Figured that was just a bone they threw to her monstrous ego I found her clothes very boring, but then I am an average plus size woman not a model thin red carpet fashionista.

Wish these fashion shows would deal more with clothes for the average woman - using a variety of models with porportion flaws - not all these skinny minnies.

Good luck!

I LOVE YOUR DESIGNS!!!!!!!Every single piece in your final collection I could picture myself wearing to the office/date/party etc. etc...You design for ladies that are slightly different but still ladies and I love that! I do think that you biggest competition would have been Reco had he stayed, but you rocked it and i'm soooooo happy you won... now... WHERE CAN I GET THOSE DRESSES!?!?!?!?!

Anna,

How wonderful you are the winner! Throughout the season, you were the epitome of professionalism. Many of your competitors seemed drawn to your calm, nuturing demeanor. It's nice when somebody nice wins. Best of luck to you in the future...

CONGRATULATIONS, ANNA! Great Job. I knew from the time I started watching that you would be the winner. I was impressed with your work week after week. The final collection was both inspired and real, if you know what i mean. Almost every piece was unique yet still able to translate to the everyday woman. I couldn't be happier that you won - you deserved it. Best of luck to you in the future!!

Yes, Anna, your outfits were for "real" women. I agree with the viewer requesting them in larger sizes. While the other designers' clothes were beautiful, very few of them would translate well into anything above a size 2 (even Daniela all but admitted that when talking about her size preferences). Please don't forget that many of us out there are larger (remember that about 60% of the US population is a size 14 or over) and we would like to dress more stylishly, but the clothing simply isn't available. Mumus don't look good on anyone but young Hawaiian women.....

It was difficult to rationalize why, after the collections were shown, one of the designers was eliminated. Ricco earned the right to stand with his peers as well, your viewing audience should have had the opportunity to vote for their choice of the final four. I am left to wonder if the decision was a calculated one as it was clear your audience admired this man's work.

I see great vision & talent in all featured (cast) designers. Please keep us informed as to their careers.

Anna, please know how much your work is admired. Don't forget, the average american woman is a size 14.

Hi Anna, I am Daniele. I felt connected to your earthy style from very early on. So connected I thought it was ironic that your competitor was called Daniela. I felt as you rose towards the end alongside Daniela ever so more and more connected your style and delightful designs. My mom used to teach pattern making at FIT and graduated from Parsons school of design in fusibles>> she says she used to run into Isaac in the halls from time to time..& so these tv shows Project runway and Fashion Show, come very close to my heart.. and your style sense and spirit speak very much to my design sense. Everyone always comments how I dress and it's because it's comfortable. every time I see you I see you with a heart like mine. I am congratulatory and non biased in saying.. I am as happy as you are for you & for your career. Congratualtions, there ought to be no question in your mind that you earned your place in this competition. I hope that makes it clear. your friend in Asheville and Cape Cod. Daniele.

The way Anna dressed hereself was telling.....it was a mess; while Daniella dressed well and had the most wearable collection of all of the contestants......can't imagine who your voters are as shoppers

i think reco should of won this show, he was the most talented of all these designers and i was blown away with his collection. even though reco did not win, i'm glad that anna won .. i liked her clothes much more than the other 2 designers and i hope everything works out great for her !

I loved Anna's designs and look forward to seeing more of her in the future.

I did not enjoy the critical nature of this show and sometimes it felt harsh. I realize that is the nature of reality TV, but after I saw the designs, I'd turn it off because I didn't want to feel down after hearing all the criticism from people who sometimes didn't measure up to the group they were judging.

Anna, I am a total Project Runway fanatic.... and to be honest, I really wasn't into this particular fashion show, forgive the pun. However, I stay tuned to view the finale- I MUST tell you I was blown away by your ferocious collection. ( And, I do live in NYC, not middle America ). I believe you displayed an amazing palate for structure and color, and disagree with the judges feeling it was somehow disconnected. Everything you sent down the runway blew me away. POP,POP,POP,POP.... thank you for believing in your dream and keeping the fire alive in yourself and in your work. I believe Anna. Godspeed, and keep moving forward. Thank you for staying true to the work- 20 dollars or 20 million, just for the love of doing it. Many Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was very disappointed with the two final episodes of this show. I think Rico should have been included in the voting and I didn't really enjoy the finale - the question/answer sessions were kind of harsh and not fun. There was no joy at all.

Regarding the whole season, you need better lighting, better set design (deciding outcomes in a closet?) and much, much more joy.

I liked Anna's clothes right from the start--the style and the colors--and I voted for her. My sister also liked Anna's designs also but didn't get a chance to vote. Daniella's clothes were sophisticated but I hated the grays and blacks, the brown, the navy blue with black, and the eggplant with black. Some of Reco's designs were quite good, but why a wedding gown that the poor model couldn't even walk in? One of his gowns was nicely stitched but very short; only someone really thin could wear it without looking dumpy.

Ana, you were my girl, all the way! Even my fashion-challenged hubby was rooting for you too!I'm so happy you won! You really, really deserved it! And you're game-plan totally worked because as they say slow and steady wins the race. By staying in the background, keeping as much good relations with your competitors while ensuring your ideas were executed as excellently as you did, you pretty much (quietly) nabbed that top prize! Loved ALL your stuff especially the jacket you made for the challenge with Haven, the Coco-inspired dress and every single piece in your final collection! Loved! Loved! Loved it! So, where and when do we get to buy and wear every single piece you made????? Congratulations!

I'm happy for Anna that she won but I also hope she takes it with a grain of salt. She won the "popularity contest" part of the show but it was Daniella who won the vote of the judges. I believe the latter is of substantially more importance to their future dealings within the profession.

But again, I liked Anna and wish her well. Oh, and Anna? You should smile more. It was amazing how that bright smile of yours transformed you into a woman 10 years younger!!

I was cheering at the top of my lungs when I found out Anna won. Everything she made from the start of the show to the end is something I would defnietly wear. She was true to herself the entire show and her end collection was some of the most beautiful pieces I've ever seen! I LOVE YOU ANNA!
