Why Did Instagram Freak Out Over Chrissy Teigen's Cookbook Preview?

The Cravings author gave a "sneaky peek" of her next book — and unleashed the commenters.

By Jenny Berg

Chrissy Teigen is hard at work on her next cookbook, and her foodie fans can't wait to get their hands on her latest recipes. After all, this is the woman who brought us buttery teriyaki chicken burgers and cheesy guacamole. But, when Chrissy shared a sneak peek at her forthcoming book on Instagram, some confusion ensued. And here we were, thinking that everyone would be freaking out about the whole section devoted to potatoes...

In the September 16 post, the ace cook announced that her book would be coming out in just two days, and that she was sharing "another sneaky peek." Said peek included a snapshot of the table of contents, in which different recipe categories — including "Snacks," "Thai mom," and "Potatoes & Their Friends" — could be clearly seen.

And page numbers for the recipes could also be seen. Cue the comments — and the confusion. But, first, take a look at the snap and see if you note anything eyebrow raising:

2 more days! Another sneaky peaky of #CRAVINGS2!!

Some followers mistook the table of contents for a restaurant menu, and were surprised at what they perceived to be astronomically high prices. For example, the Golden Onion Rice Pilaf was listed as on page number 131, while the Chicken Nachos with Avocado Salsa are on page 102. "I thought these were prices for a minute," said one fan. Another chimed in with: "omg girl same and I was appalled at the prices!" Still another Instagram user wrote: "Is that dollars? Can I get an 1/8 of an appetizer [?]"

For the record, the book itself is available on Amazon for about $18. But also? We have lots of moments when we'd pay $124 for Salt-&-Vinegar Baked Fries — whatever gets you through the day, areweright.
