Avocados are delicious as well as completely on trend — but they can also be sources of significant danger. Joy Behar recently found that out the hard way, when a serious incident with the green fruit landed her in the hospital.
Behar described the scary incident on The View. "Saturday night... I stabbed myself in the hand with a knife," she said. "I stuck the knife into the pit to get it out," she explained. "I never had pain quite so intense, it was awful." Yeesh, that does sound pretty bad.
Behar headed the hospital, where the doctor admitted her for an overnight stay due to an infection in her hand.
But at least she got some reassurance that she's not the only one who's been bested by a pesky pit. So-called "avocado hand" is a real syndrome, and the doc assured Behar that: "We get this all the time."
Case in point: Bachelorette alum Andi Dorfman has also suffered from the affliction.
So be careful out there, guys. You might even want to heed Behar's take-away lesson: "I'm only going to buy ready-made guacamole," she joked.
