Well I upset Kim with my comments about "Tardy For The Party." She hit me up, and we talked, so everything is cool. I will explain why I feel the way I feel about it ... later. First let me comment on the rest of the show.
I heard a lot of people talking on the radio saying that they thought Nene was faking when she cried. Honestly, when I watched the show, I teared up when I saw the scene with her and her son. I think you guys forget that we put our personal lives out there for the world to see. During taping this season, Nene had to deal with her son being arrested and problems in her marriage being blasted in the media. Who wouldn't be extra emotional during that time? It may be surprising coming from me, but I really felt Nene on this one.
Okay, what's next. Oh, how do y'all feel about our newbie Cynthia? She's beautiful and a sweet person from what I've seen. Speaking of newbies, I know Phaedra had to be fired up when they mentioned how long Apollo had been in jail and that he was friends with Lawrence's friend. People love to imply that men who've spent long periods of time in jail have tried the whole male on male action thing, but I don't think that's neccessarily true.
Anyway, my performance at The Uptown Supper Club was pretty good. It was the first time in a long time that I performed with a band so I was nervous. The song I sang is titled, "I Just Know," and it will be on my album "Kandi Koated" that is releasing this year. I had a great time working with Ne-Yo. He's a hitmaker, and you guys didn't get a real good listen to the song he wrote for me, but it turned out great!
Wow I'm the first to respond...be cautious with Kim. You have a good and trusting heart and your in the music business you know the deal.....Can you say "opportunist" (I think I spelled it right) "Watch out for Kim girl" I think its great that you are successful in the music business as a song writer and singer. When I see Kim and others like her making big bucks for little talent I can kick myself for not getting in the business. "I know I can sing" and wrote a few songs too...Most of the time its not your talent its who you know. "Tardy for the Party" proved that. Kim attorney didn't tell her crap she told her attorney...She is by no means stupid...she just pretends to be on TV. How else could a woman live a "wealthy" lifestyle and not work. She's a hustler... Look at that dress she had to have sown on. She was a tug from being topless....Politely keep you distance..feed her with a long handled spoon. I see trouble coming...
Ms Kandi you are the sweetest person on that show and the moat honest person I wish all success in life God bless!
KANDI, HONEY YOU ARE GOOD, LETS SEE IF KIM CAN SING ANOTHER SONG AS GOOD AS 'TARDY FOR THE PARTY' AND THE GOOD THING ABOUT IT......... IS A MILLION AND HALF PEOPLE THAT WATCH THE SHOW, KNOW YOU WERE THE ONE THAT MADE THAT SONG INTO A HIT,AND LIKE YOU STATED, YOU WILL MAKE MANY,MANY SONGS AGAIN,BUT PERSONAL, SHE DID YOU WRONG, AND YOU DID WHAT GOD HAS TRIED TO TEACH US TO DO FOREVER, YOU TURN THE OTHER CHEEK' AND STILL REMAINE FRIENDS WITH KIM,BUT IN THE LONG RUN YOU WILL BE BLESS FOREVER AND KIM WILL SEE.... YOU WILL GET THE LAST LAUGHT.I LOVE SEEING YOU ON THE SHOW, YOU ARE NOT A SHOW PIECE,YOU DON'T SPLURGE MONEY LIKE OTHERS DO, YOU DON'T WEAR FANCY CLOTHES,YOU ARE SO FOR REAL GIRL, AND I KNOW YOU HAVE MONEY BUT SOMETHING MY MOM HAVE ALWAYS SAID 'LET THE BIG MOUTH PERSON RUN HIS MOUTH, THAT WAY, YOU KNOW WHAT HE/SHE GOT AND WILL DO, BUT ON THE OTHER HADD THE PERSON THAT SIT BACK AND SAY NOTHING OR SHOW OFF,BEWARE OF HIM/SHE, CAUSE YOU DON'T KOW WHAT THE HELL SHE OR HE HAS OR WILL DO.YOU GO GIRL, I LOVE YOU FOR KEEPING IT REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ms Kandi you are the sweetest person on that show and the most honest person I wish you all success in life God bless!
I don't think you really need to explain anything, we all know that Kim is vocally challenged, to put it nicely. I do feel that fair is fair and right is right. Regardless if you had an aggreement or not, that song would be nothing with out you! A Lawyer is there to advise you not dictate what you do. So her reasonings for not paying you correctly is B.S. yes I said it for you because I understand you are being nice. I agree with you, lesson learned and it probably didn't make you or break you but what's the saying. Oh yeah, don't bite the hand the feeds you. You will continue to make beautiful music and she will be a one hit wonder. I'm looking forward to getting your album when it comes out and I love the title.
I understand what you are saying but if ya'll are still friends then why would Kim say she has cut several checks for you--not that I believe her--because it seems that she was all good with the agreement until she starting making a killing off of the song then things changed and she didn't want to keep up her part...besides a lawyer is only an adviser, he can't make you do anything you don't wanna do..so it sounds like she got over on you and is continuing to do so..and she really thinks she is talented because she talked about you like you were her roadie for that show coming up on the next episode
Hi Kandi, I think your new song is great, and I liked what you said in your blog, about Kim, makes sense. We all know you created magic with that song, she sounds awful on her own! :) Laura, San Jose
I was annoyed when you worked with Kim last season to "prove anybody could make a hit". I think it was to get under Nene's skin because you and she didn't hit it off. There are so many girls in Atlanta and everywhere else that can sing Kim under the table and will NEVER have the opportunity to see the inside of a studio. The fact that you treated it like a joke was offensive. Neyo is right and I think you are having buyers remorse because Kim used you like she uses Papa for his money, Nene to get her on the show, Dallas Austin for credibility and anyone else she can. You made a fool of yourself and now you seem to be complaining about it.
Hey girl! I just have to tell you that you freakin rock! You are my fave on the ATL series! After reading what you did for Kim and how you feel about it - You have got a heart of gold. I can't wait for her to ask you to help her with another song... LOL
Looking forward to "Kandi Koated". =)
Hi Kandi, First i must say again , over and over, how lucky kim is to have u come into her life. She may never understand, nor ever appreciate what a true person you are. people like you are so rare, but there are many Nene's and Kim's. Stay the way you are, please dont ever change.
Kandi, I really like you and I think you shoot right from the hip. But, Girl you better watch that Kim. She's just SHADEY!!! You've got more class in your little finger than she has in her whole body wig and all. I guess we'll just wait and see.
Mmm Khandi... no disrespect, but on Wendy Williams and last season you said you gave Kim the song. You actually boasted and bragged about giving her the song and how you can make a hit for anyone. I think you are like many ...we just want to be appreciated. You probably thought the song wouldn’t do as well or that Kim would be grateful. However, Kim is like a lot of folks they forget about the giver and just focus on the gift. Also, the live version of “I just know” would be a perfect song to sell/give to Toni Braxton, Tamar Braxton, or any Braxton...if you don’t really want it. It could be a big hit with a soulful singer. You did well! Not to down you, but I heard you say last night you did not like the slow stuff. That’s the main reason I suggested. Well Ms Khandi keep doing you.
I think your post was well written explaining the whole Kim- Tardy for the Party issue. It really detailed your knowledge of the business. I think you are an awesome writter and hope that you keep doing what you do. Hey, good luck on the new album, I'll be sure to pick it up.
You're the most talented housewife (by far) and I love you on the show.
However, even though you did all the work on Tardy for the Party, the ridiculous lyrics and the fact that Kim sang it contributed to the magic. Still, I can't imagine someone taking back a cheque they'd already given.
Kandi I think that you are a great person. What you did by letting it go shows true character and that you are a great friend. I hope Kim appreciates you for it.
I love you Kandi!! You are the epitome of a good person and by far the classiest of all the housewives in any city. Keep setting a good example for all to follow!
PS-Xscape was one of the first CD's I ever owned
Kandi girl I just heard your song and let me tell you, its a serious cut. Im buying it once it hit stands..I totally related to the song and be sure that other women will feel it to girl..You got some serious vocals..You should of been doing this a long, long time ago..You go girl..Keep making the cuts!
Thanks for clearing it all up .... I hope Kim reads it & then honors her agreement - she is so lucky she had you to pick her up after all the previous junk !
You are more authentic and have more class and TALENT than anyone on the show. Your voice is beautiful as is your spirit.
Kandi, you are so, so pretty and definitely have the best personality. I wish you'd wear your hair long. I saw pictures of you from Escape and you look beautiful with longer hair.
Wait! Aren't verbal agreements legally binding? Or is Kandi simply getting shafted? Kandi, get your own lawyer and talk to them.
Hi Kandi, You have an exquisite voice!!!! INCREDIBLE!! Kandi, you know that Kim does not sing or dance in a stage. I understand that Kim has another song that is another hit? Did you has something to do with this? I disagree with you helping people who do not sing because when you hear them it is completely fake. Sorry!!
God Bless you, your child and your family,
Yolanda Garcia Berdecia San Juan, Puerto Rico
Kandi, you are absolutely the most down to earth person yet on reality tv. You keep it real and I love you for that. You are a role model to me and many other women. Stay strong and God Bless, Andrea Kalamazoo, MI
Kandi - You were incredible on Monday's show! I loved your live performance, it was moving. I love your voice, I bought your new single and I bought your EP. Thank you for clearing up that Kim issue. I understand the music business is just that - a business! I love your spirit and I can the truth in you. You have been there, done that and some of these other women are trying to get to where you've been. Keep doing you and I look forward to the new CD, Kandi Koated!
I love the new song that you performed!!!I wish there wasnt all the talking they showed (getting everyone's opinion). but I loved it. Kim looks and acts like the type that she is out for SELF!!!!! I am glad you have lived and learned!!!!
Kandi I have to let you know that you are my absolute favorite of all HOUSEWIVES. You are honest and true to yourself! I love it. Your mom did a GREAT JOB!
right on point... Kandi stay away from Kim.... You are too classy... Hang out with the girl who co-owns the club.... she is beautiful and smart....
Thank you for posting your thoughts. You are a good person with a heart of gold. I believe that the Lord will bless you.
I wonder if Kim really understands how lucky she is to have you as a friend. I hope she respects you and your friendship the way that you do.
I understand that you can only control or direct your own behavior and admire your ability to let things go.
However, you did the work. You need to get paid for the work you did. Point blank, period.
Kandi, you ALWAYS keep it real. You are my favorite and I truly hope Kim appreciates everything you've done for her. Thank you for explaining, it all makes perfect sense!! I"m so glad you're looking at it like, you will have many more amazing successful songs and this is not worth your friendship. BRavo for putting personal relationships before money! YOu are a great person and great things will happen for you :)
Kandi, you are such a wonderful person and I really hope Kim realizes what you did for her. I feel she took advantage of your talent, connections and friendship still. You took a lame ass song and made it into gold girl!!!!!! I am in the music business as a drummer in a local band so I know how hard it is to get a break much less for someone of YOUR caliber to offer to help out with a song for a nobody with no talent. THE NERVE of her and her lawyer to take back the money!!! Never again girl, NEVER AGAIN.
Its the past and leave it there. But still........that makes me mad.
KANDI 1ST AND FOREMOST....I THINK U R DA REALEST FEMALE ON DA SHOW....2ND ....A FRIENDSHIP GOES 2WAYS AND I BELIEVE KIM IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF YOUR LOYALTY B/C IF IT HAD BEEN ANYONE ELSE 2 MODIFY A SONG N2 A HIT SINGLE IT WUD BE NO IF ANDS R BUTS ABOUT IT.... PAY ME!
hahahaha! too funny! I like the song " I just know" but I have to agree with truthbtold... not the best song for your voice... stick to the more upbeat pop songs
My husband and I bought the song off of ITunes. But we wouldn't have had we known Kim was going to rip you off. Your talent and contacts made that song hot and got her money. You deserve the money!
Watch out for Kim. She was proven to be a liar and a pot stirrer last season. She is a professional user.
I like the new boyfriend. He's a keeper.
Not so sure you should be teaming up with Fantasia. She has some serious PR issues. I think you should stick to song writing.
Regarding "Tardy for the Party" . . . Despite your friendship, you should get yourself a lawyer and explain to Kim that the reason that you are getting a lawyer is because it is unfair for her to be the only financial beneficiary of this song. You did all the work. You did everything. I believe a judge and or a jury would decide in your favor. It would be clear that you would not have made a concession like that with Bravo to play the song for free, if you did not expect to receive some compensation in some other way.
I believe this is the perfect case where it would be clear that a verbal agreement would have been made exactly the way that you said that it was. Anyone can see that and a court would too. You must get a lawyer and take this matter to court. Friendship is important and Kim is NOT being a friend to you. You are being S-C-R-E-W-E-D. Kim would never have been able to make this on her own with her terrible vocals. You are the only reason that she was able to do this and you are getting nothing. She did not even have the strength to believe in herself, you even gave her emotional support when she thought that she did not have what it took and would be the laughing stock.
GET A LAWYER NOW!!!!!! Just explain to Kim that she is not being a friend to you. If she does not understand that, then you didn't have a friend to begin with (and I question whether she is really your friend anyway).
First of all you are a great person with a kind heart . I love your music you are a natural talent keep up the good work.
Kandi, I like how you put things together to were you sayin wat you mean and not hurtin sumone feelin. And i truly love wat you do and how you have urself together. Much Love
First let me say that when you performed your song at the club, it brought me to tears. That song is FIRE and I love it. Second, I appreciate you as a woman sticking up for NeNe even though your relationship may not be the best. That's truly what we SHOULD do for one another and if we as black women did that, we could before a powerful force in the universe through unity. Third, I feel that NeNe's allegations against Kim regarding her opportunistic nature may be on point. Perhaps away from the cameras, Kim is indeed the friend that you have indicated on your blogs but on camera she comes across as a predator looking out for own gain. You clearly were acting as a friend instead of business and speaking of business..........Kim's attorney wouldn't have known about the check if she hadn't mentioned it to them. If you were stacking the cards in her favor financially, you would think she wouldn't have pulled the okeydoke. Watch her girl!!!!!!! And moving forward, keep business business and friendship friendship.
KIm did you wrong. Period. Bottom Line. Lawyer or not. You don't give a check and ask for it back. How you can still be "cool," I don't know.
Kandi! I love your style and following you as a musician myself. Reading this blog I could totally relate to you as a song writer. Everything you explained is 100% accurate regarding the royalty split artists/writers recieve when publishing a song...whether they sing it, produce it, write it, or have anything relatively creative involved at all during the process. So much of the music biz is about doing favors to get favors and trusting that everyone will choose to do the right thing and be fair at the end of the day. But, especially when you're working with friends, sometimes that's not always the way it works out. I've been burned soooo many times by not being smart and making sure there's some kind of agreement in writing, so it was great to hear that I'm not the only one learning from that mistake! As awkward as it is, you just reaffirmed how important getting something in writing is when doing business...So, thanks for clarifying! And BTW, Kim's not my favorite, but the "Tardy" is a hit! Congrats!
