Cynthia Gets Her Healthy Back

Cynthia opens up about her battle with fibroids.

Hello everyone! I hope you enjoyed another drama filled episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Apologies for not blogging last week. I will try to sum up the last two episodes without writing a book. I know we love our drama, but sometimes it’s nice to throw a little education and information into the mix.

Let's talk about fibroids! What are fibroids in the first place? Fibroids are growths (tumors) that develop from the smooth muscle layer of the uterus. They are the most common growths of the uterus and female pelvic organs. One study found that approximately 50% of women have them. Most often they are benign. Very rarely they can become cancerous (less than 0.5% of the time). Thank God!

How did the heck did I get fibroids? Doctors don't know the cause of uterine fibroids, however they do know that the growth of fibroids is dependent on estrogen production. This is the reason why fibroids have the potential to enlarge during pregnancy (when increased levels of estrogen are present) as well as to regress after menopause (when there are decreased levels of estrogen). They can be multiple or exist as a single large growth. They can be located on the surface of the uterus, in the wall of the uterus, or in the uterine cavity. I first found about my fibroids almost 14 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter Noelle. At that time, other than heavy menstrual bleeding, I had no other symptoms.

What are the symptoms? Most fibroids do not cause any symptoms and many women are unaware that they have them. Of course I was not so lucky! I had all kinds of symptoms:

Abnormal menstrual cycle: My period would show up at any time. And you guys know I don't like surprises! Wearing white pants was very tricky because of unexpected visitors. Umm embarrassing!Abnormally heavy menstrual bleeding: My cycle would last almost 8 days as opposed to 3 or 4 days. I was PMS-ing (the week before), then actually on my period (another week), and 1 week of normalcy before starting the whole thing all over again. I felt like my life revolved around my period. For the first time in years, we have white sheets on the bed.

Anemia: Had very low energy no matter how much sleep I got. I have been tired for the last 5 years!

Abnormally heavy menstrual periods that come more frequent than your normal cycle (less than every 28-30 days).

Pelvic pain/pressure

Painful menstrual periods: Had very bad cramping the first three days and very heavy blood clotting.

Pain during or after sexual intercourse: Certain positions would be very painful during sex. Good ol' missionary position was the most comfortable.
Pressure on the bladder, which can cause frequent urination: Sometimes I felt like I had to urinate really bad, and then it would be drip, drop, drip!

Acute or severe pelvic pain from twisting of the fibroid on its stalk, or from degeneration of the fibroid.

Who gets fibroids? Fibroids are more common in African American women than in women of other racial groups. One study showed that fibroids are three times more common in African American women than in Caucasian women. Additionally, fibroids tend to be larger and occur at an earlier age in African Americans. It is unclear as to why such differences exists. Why I chose Dr. Lipman to help me get my life back? Dr. Lipman is a pioneer in the development of uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) and is an active participant in clinical research trials that have helped demonstrate the safety and efficacy of UFE as a treatment for uterine fibroids.

Having performed the first UFE in Georgia, Dr. Lipman has the largest UFE experience in the United States and one of the largest worldwide experiences, having performed over 3,000 UFE procedures. He was the Principal Investigator for one the 23 core sites for the UFE National Fibroid Registry which enrolled over 3,000 women with symptomatic fibroids.

Thank you all for your well wishes and kinds words of encouragement throughout this ordeal. It has been about five months since I actually had the procedure (the recovery time was only one week), and I feel great! But this was only Step 1. I am a woman of a certain age, and I knew it was time to make a real investment in my health. This situation made me realize that I can no longer afford to take my health for granted. Step 2: I have since started on the Genovive health management program (Genovive.com). They send me my meals monthly to ensure that not only I am eating enough food a day, but also that I am eating healthy food, as well as the right proportions every day. I also work out three days a week. I have lost all the weight in my stomach area (and back! LOL!), and my clothes are sliding on with ease. I am happy, sex is great (no we didn't hit the lottery yet LOL!), and we are up to three times a week on a good week! I feel so blessed to have my healthy back! I don't know about you guys but I want to live a long and health life.Thoughts:

Kandi: I pray that Kandi will be able to convince Miss Joyce to respect her love and commitment to Todd. There is nothing like being in love and finding the man you want to spend the rest of your life with. Although I don't think it's ever a good idea for kids to be put in the middle of grown folk issues, I loved watching Riley support and comfort her mother.

Porsha: I also pray that Porsha finds the ministry that I know is inside of her to forgive Kordell, and take the necessary steps to move on with her life in a productive and positive way. My heart goes out to Porsha for being blindsided by the news of Kordell filing for divorce, and I think he was wrong not to tell her to her face. However, two wrongs don't make a right. It's not always easy to take the high road when you are hurting, but in the long run at least you still have your integrity and dignity. In good times and bad times, never comprise who you are.Thank you all for watching! I appreciate all of you. Trust me there is more drama to come! Make sure you tune in every Sunday night at 8/7c. Only on Bravo!

Love you guys!

Claudia: Kordell was Barely Flirting

Claudia Jordan dishes on her relationship with Kordell Stewart.

Bravotv.com: Were you excited for the road trip? Did you end up having to drive the whole time?
Claudia Jordan: First things first, I'd like to thank all the viewers and fans of #RHOA for all of their support of the show and for making us the success that we are. It is totally appreciated and we recognize the enthusiasm and support for the show, and we couldn't be happier. So kudos to you guys that support us and our antics!

OK now lets get into it... I have to say I love a road trip, I really do. But when Cynthia invited me, as much as I wanted to go, I was also very nervous about getting back to Atlanta on time for my radio show. So I went hoping that if I was going to pull an all nighter, not get any sleep, and go straight to work, then dammit, it better be fun. And boy was it! From the moment I linked up with the beauties, it was non-stop laughs! I felt like a college kid again hitting the road with the ladies.

I will say this though -- I thought we would never get there. I mean a 3 hour road trip ended up being closer to 5 hours! First we could not miss a Kenya Moore feeding, because anyone that is friends with her knows that Twirl turns into tornado if she does not get her food, LOL! But I can't be mad, because the Chick-fil-A was pretty good!

And I didn't mind driving the entire time. Anyone that knows me knows I get car sick when I am not driving or I will be out cold sleeping. If you want to put me to sleep, take me on a drive. Since I was a baby (and I would cry) my mother would put me in the car and go for a drive, and I would be knocked out! So for me driving was a must!

When we got to the hotel, time was of the essence. Cynthia told me she brought a few items just in case I didn't have something, but luckily I keep a cute, sexy little black dress on deck! So I ended up wearing something I brought, but I thought that was sweet of Cynthia to care and to pack a few extra pieces in case I didn't have something I loved. Plus keep in mind this happened back when I was still getting settled into my new digs, and I think my moving truck was still missing in action at this point in time. I don't know if you guys know this, but even after my things arrived from New York City, so many things were missing/stolen from my belongings. I still need to give an earful to that ratchet moving company for what they did to me! Anyway...

We had some playful fun in the room, and I had to give Kenya a spanking because she was being a bad girl. But the thing about Kenya I really like is that she can take a joke (and a slap to the ass)! She teases me, I tease her -- no one gets their feelings hurt about it! How many of your friends can you slam on the bed and slap their booty and they don't feel some type of way about it? That's what I'm talking about! The fun girls. Women who are about their business but don't take themselves way too seriously. That's why every single scene you see with Kenya, Cynthia, Demetria, and me is consistently easy, breezy, and fun! Life is short; we should all be laughing and smiling as much as we possibly can! Don't you think?

OK so Cynthia left us (and I do not blame her, she needed to go support her man on this important evening). Kenya and I finally got to Sports One and it was packed! I was very happy to see it was a success! One of the first people I see is Kordell Stewart, which was funny to me, but I wasn't surprised, because I have that kind of random life where I will run into people in the most unexpected places. Once I was in the jungle in Puerto Rico and I ran into someone I knew! I know a lot of people and I'm very socially active.

It was good to see Kordell, because he's always been a very nice and classy guy in my presence. I met him around 1998 in Los Angeles at a First Sunday party that I think his teammate Jerome Bettis was hosting. It's no secret I'm a huge football fan (Go Patriots!), and I actually have worked on a couple of sports shows. One was Fox Sports on a show called 5-4-3-2-1, and I met tons of entertainers and athletes doing that show. Then I did another sports show with John Salley, Hugh Douglas, and Guy Torry called Ballers where we interviewed different sports stars every week and took plenty of photos with them. I also did a show pilot called The Fantasy Show, which was a fantasy football show for ESPN.

My point in mentioning all of this is not to brag about my resume, but to explain that I am a woman into sports -- especially football. Kordell was a black quarterback early on when it was a very tough position to get, because some idiots really thought that African Americans weren't "smart enough" to QB a team. My sports folks will know this was a ridiculous theory that some tried to really perpetuate. With that said, I have the utmost respect for Kordell pushing right past that stereotype and reaching the heights he did as a great quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. So yes, I respect him as an athlete. When we met, I of course knew who he was. We exchanged info, chatted a few times, and became platonic friends. He never even really hit on me and was a complete gentleman. I'd see him here and there at events, and that was it. I saw him at a radio show, a party, etc. We just always had a mutual respect for one another. Nothing more, nothing less.

So when folks on social media were getting angry for "going after" another woman's ex, I had to laugh! NEWSFLASH: We are all someone's ex! And it's not like I was chopping it up with a married man or anything tacky like that. Kordell is a friend, and that is that. Besides, if you have been watching how I move on this show, I have tried to play nice with all the ladies on this show until they have shunned or disrespected me. So being new to this group, I'm not going to intentionally do anything to create more animosity than there already is. Real talk. I need my days to be less stressful, not more! Taking a selfie is not sexual activity or inappropriate behavior. Be clear -- my mother did a great job of teaching me the difference between right and wrong. But once again, the double standards of right and wrong in this group never cease to amaze me! Selfie versus side piecing? Umm, I'll take a million selfies before I go out like that!

Bravotv.com: Did you feel that Kordell was flirting with you? Would you consider dating him?

CJ: Hmm was Kordell flirting? I mean, barely. At the table when Kenya asked him if he was dating, he said straight up he was seeing someone and I think he was just having a little fun with me like I was with him. It was cute and harmless, and we were having drinks (I know, for me shocking, right? LOL!) and enjoying the successful grand opening of Sports One -- that's really all it was. I am happy to report Kordell has never called my phone late night breathing hard and has been a complete gentleman around me when I have run into him. He has chosen to not speak negatively of his ex in my presence despite the awful allegations that have been made about him, and for that he has my respect. But enough about that... When can we go back to Sports One, Cynthia and Kenya? Let's bring Demetria next time and have Road Trip No. 2!

Thank you for all the kind words on my social media and for all the new followers and folks riding with me on this crazy journey! I promise to always keep it real with you guys and share some real life experiences that I hope you can relate to.
