BH Producers

Be Prepared

BH Producer Dave Rupel explains how prepped the production crew must be and answers some of your questions.

Sep 19, 2011

BravoBravo has four questions. One: Do the ladies watch the footage before we interview them? Nope. The ladies are questioned based on their memories. Two: Did the people on the plane know they were going to be filmed prior to the departure? We always put out Area Release signs when we shoot people in the public, and yes, sometimes, people are surprised -- usually quite happily. But all the people you see in the background on the plane happily signed releases. Three: Does it take a long time to get through the airport with all that equipment? YES! Though most times, most of the crew is sent earlier with the majority of the gear and just one crew is left behind to shoot the "follow." Also, we work closely with the airlines to make things go as smoothly as possible. Four: What's the fourth wall? That is a show business term that acknowledges that we are in fact a "television show." Examples of that would be on the old Carol Burnett show or Saturday Night Live when one of the actors starts to laugh. That's "breaking character" or "breaking the fourth wall" because the character isn't laughing, the actor is. Make sense?

And now to the last -- and most charming -- question I received last week, wanting to know if the handsome cameraman in the photo is single? Sorry to disappoint you Real BH Girl, but that handsome cameraman is Parker Whittemore, and he is not only married, but he and his wife gave birth to their first child at the beginning of Season 2. But I will pass along your compliment!

It sounded like Kyle slipped this week when she had dinner with Maurico. She said "When I was getting/While I was doing my makeup"...do the ladies all travel with hair and makeup artists? Do they have their hair and makeup done before they shoot every scene?

It seemed like Kyle had a slip of the tongue this week when out to dinner with Maurico. She said "When I was getting/When I was doing my makeup..." That leads the viewer to believe she didn't really do her own makeup. Do all of the ladies travel with hair and makeup artists? Do they have their makeup done before they shoot every scene?

How and when do we send in the questions asked by Andy at the reunions?

Of course everyone on the plane signed the release. It's not like the subway, where you can just catch the next train 5 minutes later.

Why doesn't Kim keep a blog?

I would like to know what type of dog is Jackpot - Adrienne & Paul's new dog. Thanks.

Why do sometimes show the same footage over again on a different episode? For example, you showed Lisa looking at the empty building next to Sur in two separate episodes. I would think you have more than enough footage to not need to show the same thing twice. I have seen this happen on other Housewives shows.

To answer a question posed, I want to see the reality of their lives, if you are shooting any less, then I am not getting why I watch.

Question: What can the fans do to express their heartfelt caring & praying for Taylor and her family? I am sure I am not the only one who has been praying for Taylor and her daughter. C.K 22

Since the series is called real house wives of, etc, why are you casting single woman? Such as the new women joint BH.

We want Kim! We want Kim!

Dave, your blogs are great! Lucky to know while watching that I can ask about anything that confused me and hopefully get an answer.

For me I was confused during the scene where Paul and Adrienne were discussing going to the game and the suite. I didn’t feel there was enough background info given leading into the scene about why she shouldn’t be attending. Just my opinion. The whole way through the scene I was trying to figure out why the fans would be so angry with her?

How do you decide which friends of the wives will be allowed in the scenes and have reoccurring roles on the series? Do the ladies specifically list friends they would like to shoot with or do you choose people you want to shoot and the wives must become fast friend or enemies? I love Faye, she’s funny. Not sure I’m going to love Brandi. I realize she’s a wife scorned but she certainly didn’t handle the situation like a lady in the same way Camille did. Really loving Camille so much more this year and Kim too!

Also, I feel if Taylor can do paid interviews out in the press (ET, Dr. Phil) and profit from this tragedy she should be able to write a Bravo blog. I’m not diminishing what she is going through at all. She is first and foremost paid by Bravo and I believe her first obligation should be to Bravo.

Heading to China & Korea on a two week vacation. Will be anxious to get back and catch up on episodes. Thanks for a great series!

Reality TV is just that and nothing should be disected

Can you show more 'beauty shots' of glitzy boutiques and the opulence of BHs?

Beverly Hills Housewives is my favorite of the franchises. The major thing I like about BH Wives versus the other Wives shows is that they aren't constantly hawking some product that they've decided to sell or song they've over-digitalized. It's very annoying when Ramona is always pushing her wine or her jewelry or Theresa her cookbooks......and the list goes on and on. It starts to look like a constant commercial rather than a look at their lives.

When and how often do they do their interviews? Is it during filming or at the end?

Do family members of the housewives receive income for appearing on the show?
