Season 1
Hey, RHOBH fans, its Dave Rupel, one of the Executive Producers and Showrunner back for a second season of blogging! Last week, Douglas Ross, the President and CEO of Evolution Media, as well as one of the Executive Producers of RHOBH, wrote the initial blog for the premiere that dealt with cast member Russell Armstrong's suicide. I thought Doug wrote a lovely blog, so there's really nothing more for me to add, other than all of us on the show continue to send our sympathies and support to Taylor, Kennedy, and Russell's family and friends.
For anyone who didn't read my blog in the first season, the ladies will be blogging about their experiences while filming. The purpose of my blog is to answer questions and give you some behind-the-scenes glimpses. Last year I explained what a Showrunner was, so for those uninitiated, I'll give you the Reader's Digest version. There are eight Executive Producers on RHOBH. Four are executives at Evolution Media and three are executives at Bravo. They are all covering multiple shows at once. I am the only EP that is dedicated solely to RHOBH. So basically I am the day-to-day boss who still has to answer to all the other EPs.
Now, let's talk about Episode 2, entitled "Blame It On The Altitude," in which the ladies travel to Vail, CO, for a ski weekend. A lot of people ask me if we script the events of the show. No, we don't. We're just in constant contact with the ladies asking them what's going on in their lives, and when we hear something that sounds interesting, we shoot it. And that's how we wound up in Beaver Creek. Due to Camille and Kelsey's divorce, they had agreed to sell their beautiful Beaver Creek home. Camille wanted to visit one last time and thought it would be a fun trip for the ladies. That's all I had to hear. Let’s go to Colorado!
We have a really great crew and staff on our show, and we were very fortunate to have nearly 100 percent of them return for Season 2. We traveled a lot in Season 1 and when you work together that long, you develop a shorthand with people and you get the traveling down to a science. The nice thing about that is it allowed us to try and up our game. What could we do to make the show look even better? We did it by experimenting with several technical "toys" as our Line Producer Dave Patry would call them.
MISSED YOU DAVE ! Taylor seems so frail and on the verge of a nervous breakdown, should the world be watching this take place ? Thanks, glad that you are back.
i love lisa vanderpump shes the perfect portrait of a great lady! i wanna be her when im old! shes flawless!!!
Still am loving the amazing and astute Lisa. She could really spot that something was seriously off with Taylor, and has since the first season. Loved how she was filmed on the slopes...really cute!...poodle hat and all. Hope we hear from her in a blog, and the others. Actually enjoy the producer's blogs, for the different insight. However...Will the ladies blog again this season? I miss that!
Trying to figure out how you fit the camera crew in the limo from the airport to Beaver Creek with all the ladies and their luggage? It seemed rather cramped to begin with. Thanks for enlightening us!
Lisa's husband just expres how he would feel. Not everyone goes to therapy, let it go Taylor. I love Kyle & Lisa's friendship, hope Kyle sees what it is really going on.
You all do a great job with this show. I can watch it all three times on Monday night and still see something new. Beautiful photography and filming. It is funny how my friends who watch and I discuss these women like we actually know them. All the Housewives shows and, of course, Flipping Out are really enjoyable to watch. An escape from day to day life even for a little while. I have to say that Kyle is not very likable this season at all. She has a real nasty edge to her that appears at the drop of a hat. I know it was last week but was it necessary for Adrienne to mention the price of the champagne and the glasses she used. Really. It is sad to see Taylor suffering like she is and it is before Russell's death. Very sad. I hope she gets help. Thanks for the great progamming BRAVO I love it!
Tragedy aside, RHOBH is just so much fun to watch. These ladies really know how to do reality television. I honestly don't know how anyone could resist it.
Beverly Hills housewives is my favorite one. I love watching these lady's. Lisa is the women I want to be. I love watching you Lisa and I hope we get to see your daughters wedding on the show.
Are you kidding me?1?! People with money fly private to Beaver Creek, Aspen and Vail....do these housewives really have their own cash to spend?!?!? Frontier coach class? Really disappointed --Come on Bravo, send them private or find housewives who have some real coin --
I feel exactly how one of the ladies that commented (Cathy) when she says that watching the Housewives and Flipping Out are great and they really do make me escape from everyday life as well. They make me laugh and of course there are times where things get serious but these are all things that are part of life. I feel so badly for Taylor, even before Kyle mentioned that she was worried about her because she looked so frail and she had lost alot of weight, I also had noticed that and had just told my husband the same thing. It definitely is very hard losing someone especially the way he died and how unexpected it was, however, she needs to try and be as strong as she can for herself but mostly for Kennedy. It will take time, that's for sure but she will be okay. I will keep her and Kennedy in my prayers (and I don't just say that, I really mean it. When I pray I mention people by their names, that's something that my grandmother, God rest her soul, taught me. She was very religious and she was always praying and it really did stay with me. God will take care of Taylor and Kennedy, He always does. On a much lighter note, thank you for the show, I love all the ladies and I get to see places that I know I will never see in person. Great show- best of luck.
I love reading your blog, getting some extra bonus info about the production.
When will we see the ladies blogs?? I am dying to read them!
I loved Lisa's outfit for the slopes...she Looked amazing....Lisa looks like a brit barbie doll. She is beautiful. I love Ken too.
Another thing kinda funny with Kyle...she is in the bathroom the first episode telling Taylor she did the right thing in not starting drama at the dinner table .....but its ok to start drama in the bathroom.
Just an FYI -- Adrienne did not announce the price of the champagne to her guests. It was mentioned on camera while she was in the kitchen w/ her chef. In addition, I believe it was Kim's voice that stated the price of the flutes. I have never observed Adrienne trying to flaunt her wealth or act in a superior manner towards the other HWs. On the contrary, she has always been kind and compassionate, and ready to lend an ear to anyone in need (e.g. Kim in the limo @ Taylor's bday party).
I found this episode a bit uneventful. Camille is definitely more comfortable w/ the other HWs -- it was great to see her cut loose and have fun. Kim appeared to be wired (meds?), but it was also good to see her more outgoing this episode (We're all cheering for you, Kim).
I was disappointed in Lisa's constant jabs at Taylor. It makes her appear an arrogant bully. Also, believe it was inappropriate for Kyle to be offering marital advice to Taylor. Friends should be there to listen -- leave the counseling to a trained professional.
I love the HWOBH! Are the ladies going to blog this year? I hope so. I love that. Taylor , I'm sorry for your loss and hope youre doing better. Hang in there. There is a solution to it all. If you have to file BK. Millions are having to because of economy. Dont feel bad. Time will heal your heart sweetie.
Bravo I think you are doing the correct thing by not letting the Ladies blog individually for awhile. It is obvious that throughout the whole Taylor/ Russell marriage there were deep problems. I can even see Kyle "pushing" Taylor in the direction of a separation. Taylor is very fragile and probably is feeling a lot of "what ifs"....though I don't think anyone can prevent someone from taking their life if that person really wants to take their life. That being said, I do enjoy watching the show in spite of the tragedy that has happened. I think the blogs can wait until next year or at least later in the season.
I admire Lisa and Ken! I love her sincerity and honesty, and Ken has every right to his own opinion. When Lisa stated in the opening show they only really knew Russell from what they were told by Taylor, I think that spoke volumes. Taylor is a train wreck, and I agree it's hard to watch. The ladies could learn something from Ken and Lisa, it's disappointing to hear them belittle Lisa. Didn't see that one coming, Lisa and Ken could have their own show!
I love Lisa!!! She is so funny and entertaining to watch. She definitely makes the show. Kyle seems like the mean girl this season, maybe her true colors are coming out. I'm starting to believe Camille from last season.
I'm seeing a side to the ladies that's very unattractive this season. I can tell you know that it may be reality TV but never think that the audience will not turn on you, any of you at any given moment. Make sure you and your PR keep things in order, I'm telling you the fake BS, glamour, money, cars and all that stuff don't mean anything if you not loved by your viewers. Always remember you have an audience to please, and if were pleased you will soon be off the air 'or you will talked about and that's when all of your little secrets come out. I do like your show, I would hate to see your show end up like some of the other HW's show.
If the ladies prefer not to blog this season, I don't mind. At least we still have a way to express our opinions about the show and read what others think. And I just wanted to present another defense of Ken and his therapy comment. Kyle was the one that mentioned her friends can't get their husbands to go to therapy. So to me, his comment was in response to Kyle's statement and his opinion as to why he is one of the husbands that don't want to see a therapist. Kyle is the one that took the conversation in that direction. And I think he was thoughtful to be concerned about Taylor's reaction, even though he was a little too sensitive about the word offend. Somebody should sign Kyle up for a dictionary "learn a new word" e-mail. Then by the time everyone figured out what she was trying to say with her new words, dinner would be over.
A simply request....why not take a poll and see what the viewers really want to see from these shows. I think you would find that just seeing the glitz and glamour without the risk of the drama ruining someone's life would be enough to capitivate all of us. A a day to day basis in real life, I don't think any of us have all "that" going on. These shows have the opportunity to take most of us places we will never be fortunate enough to go and certainly entertain us without the risk of destruction to the lives of friends and family. Why is it our business anyway? I think I can speak for the majority in that their lifestyles, homes and style, in of itself, would be the drawing card for the audience, not the hateful, embarrassing episodes that they and their children have to live through forever....what is "reality"???the stripping away of everyone's dignity? Why not simply trust the viewers, rather than the idea that we would only watch because someone is have a great deal of difficulty and pain in their life. Is it not "reality" for a group of people to work toward peace and harmony while having fun and showing us the beauty of their lives?
My hope is that, RHOBH will keep it's level of integrity and still maintain it's classy ambience. It doesn't have to thrive in petty intrigues and nonsensical dramas to make it watcheable. I can see how Kyle will be throwing herself in the 'eye' of everybody's business. Adrienne is still the epitome of a highly intellectual, educated and privileged individual and I like how Kim is opening up more this time. Drinking H2O after giggy? In a $500+ champagne glass? I would have gone ballistic!!!!! That was waaaaay 2 NOT C O O L.
My favorite housewives by far. I thought I would see some mention of Kim in the blogs. It was quite obvious to me she was high (on something) while traveling to Beaver Creek. Her saying she was ill in the morning only confirmed. More like coming down from something. There are some major dependency issues. Looks like from the previews they'll be more on this subject.
Please make all episodes available under "Full Episodes". Its frustrating when you all only post a couple. Thank you & God Bless!
I agree with all these ladies. I miss the individual blogs. It is all so sad to watch when Taylor cries and breaks down. It's like she's lost all hope not just in marriage but in herself...wishing her well. It was great fun watching the skiing. It made me want to learn to ski. I've never been, so it was fun to watch. Loved Lisa's outfit, and she was right...they were just hating! I hate that women do this when someone had a good idea that they missed. It's like when Sonja Morgan dressed lavishly for their day of shopping in Morocco. Jill bashed her in the interviews for Sonja dressing to stand out, but isn't that a part of living a wealthy lifestyle. Sometimes you can be a little flashy, which Lisa did impeccably well.
I don't care how the season looks to be setting Lisa up as the Big Bad Wolf and Taylor the victim. I do feel for Taylor's long-suffering and the shocking recent events, but the first two episodes have me concerned for how these two ladies are going to be portrayed.
Love Lisa(!), Camile definitely has come down to Earth (so far) and it's nice to see, Kim seems more at ease, Kyle needs to step back from playing sides, Adrienne needs to loosen up with Paul, and Taylor (well...)
Dave, I loved your blog. I hope you keep giving us the skinny on how filming the show works. What you have to say about how it's done is really interesting... especially when someone snowboards backward down a hill to get a shot. I wish you guys would do an episode where the cast didn't know you were coming. I'd like to see what the ladies wear when they're not prepared for the camera's. Does anyone own a pair of sweat pants and fuzzy socks?
Dave, how does Bravo decide what cities they'll showcase for their housewives shows, and how do they find the housewives who will be on those shows?
Dave, I'm glad that you guys still ran the footage you shot before what happened to Russell. Even though that was horribly tragic, the situation that unfolded between Ken and Taylor regarding therapy is a perfect example of life happening in real time. You filmed it and let it stand, which was the honest thing to do in light of what happened after you filmed it. Taylor is the one who brought up therapy at the dinner table in front of everyone. If she wasn't prepared to accept anyone else's thoughts or feelings about that topic, she should have kept quiet instead of crying that she's offended. I'm glad you ran that.
People with real money don't talk about money or show it off...all these "housewives" have some monetary reason for going on the show whether it be publicity for a failing enterprise, promoting a brand, or sympathy for a tarnished image. In reality, all those girls are not really living the glam life - it's a TV show. That said - it's still a hoot to watch and Andy Cohen is a brilliant producer... Love the drama on BH this season. And I agree with Anderson Cooper - Camille is adorable and makes the show worth watching.
My condolences to Russell's daughter and family...such a tragic loss. Praying for God's angels to cover Kennedy and to carry Taylor through this rough time in her life. In regards to the show, I think Lisa is the target this season. Maybe the other HWs thinks she's pretending to be Ms. Perfect. So far, she and her husbands relationship is perfect. And she insulted someone elses personal chef's cooking. I guess Ill have to watch more episodes, to see why she's suddenly is on the outs with the other ladies. Kyle was the mean one last season and people will now see more of her true colors in season two. Ive always believed Camille about what she said Kyle said in Vegas. I wonder why Kyles has such a bad attitude if her life is so great...hmmm. Kim, humph...hope she can get a handle on it because I really like her. Adrienne is so mean to her husband but he seems to egg her on. Maybe he's turned by the way she treats him...lol. Always liked Camille when no one else did--go girl! Taylor needs more help than what Kyle can offer. Praying that she gets strong for her daughter's sake.
Kyle you and Taylor start all the drama.....Taylor by the way knows exactly what she is doing. Kyle you have not been a friend to Lisa. Also Taylor, Lisa has a big heart. Just because someone says it the way it is instead of what you want to hear.....I will say one thing I've learned you will always respect and truely appreciate people that are honest. Kyle is full of it. Also love Camille this year...can not even watch Kyle or Taylor anymore...very annoying. Lisa hands down is my favorite. Lisa is so far above these other ladies and I think that is one thing that Taylor knows.
kyle coulda been more supportive to taylor in that hot tub scene... it was painful to see that, hug her, hold her hand..something. gesh
Dave, you have the best blogs, by far, of everybody involved in the franchise. I love how you discuss the technical aspects as well as the emotional. But, please, when will we be hearing from the BH ladies. Looking forward to their blogs.
Taylor is a woman that is more deserving of kindness and caring than she thinks. Don't be with anyone out of fear of being alone. Too many women make this mistake. Be patient and wait for Mr. Right, keep your mind and heart open for someone that loves unconditionally. He doesn't have to have money or fame. When you put to big of an emphasize on material possessions you end up in a bad situation. Find someone that thinks you are perfect getting out of bed in the morning before the make-up and bling. Stop and think to yourself when I'm at the end of my life what is going to really matter to me, your designer dresses or the relationships you have built with people. I think the best thing for Taylor would be getting out of Beverly Hills ASAP!!
I enjoy watching the different personalities of the women on this show but in actuality this is NOT real life for the maijority of the population. I think that most of these women only think about the superficial things in life and there is alot more to life than what shoes your wearing. It may be hard for them to believe but when my friends and I get ready for a night out not one word is said about what clothes we are wearing or what car we are driving. I'm not judging these women we are all a product of our society but try to remind yourselves what really matters in life. Just a thought. Kyle fan
Great Job to your crew!! Love the filming and the photograpy of this episode, so pretty. And Camille's house was amazing, I am liking her this season. While I do like your blog I hope the ladies get to start writing their own soon.
OMG it was the best show ever. So nice to just see them without the dark side, it's really getting depressing with the taylor/russell situation. This was such a good change, fun to watch and makes me want to watch again. not so sure taylor should be in the show anymore, sorry, but its too much and definitely not entertaining, but this one? just awesome.
I agree with Lisa. Ken has a right to his opinion!! He did NOT say seeking cousling was weak, he said he would fell weak. Kyle and Taylor, get over yourselfs.
1. I find it painful to watch Kim, she is embarrassing herself. She is MANIC! 2. LISA I LOVED YOUR SKI OUTFIT!! 3. Adrienne, you made a fool of yourself when you were giving Paul instructions on what to do while you were gone! Is he retarded? 4. Why are Mauricio and Kyle doing their own packing? We are by no means wealthy, but we have always hired a professional mover to do our packing!
who pays for flights, dinner parties, etc? Is it out of pocket for all the housewives or do the vendors contribute for exposure?

I want the ladies to start blogging about the episodes!!!!!!!
