Mary's Best Moment

Mary talks about her favorite moment from the show which you didn't see.

October 14, 2010

One of the primary reasons I chose to take the leap into the reality TV world and become a Real Housewife of DC was to showcase my charity, Labels for Love (www.labelsforlove.org). And yes, I did always want to follow my in Grandfather's footsteps and "perform" on TV! I believed that the national exposure it would receive from being covered on the show would help spearhead my efforts to raise awareness for our DC area women's and children's organizations.

Sadly, the sweet story of the fashion/art event that we as a family produced, was completely edited out of the show due to the need to cover other events, including the story of the White House State Dinner Debacle to close out the "Story That Rocked the World." This embarrassing incident was in fact covered worldwide on a very slow media day and took off virally even faster than the Double Rainbow Video! The incident offended a great many Americans, including the White House, Congress, Secret Service and others, and for it to happen on the very first State Dinner of the new administration was just too much! The fall out from what many continue to treat as "alleged" was a thoughtless, delusional, and selfish act on the part of Michaele and Tareq. There was nothing good that came from it, only harm caused to many, including the loss of employment in a few cases. I guess unless charges are ever pressed, we will never really know what happened that night after they were waived down to the next check point upon arrival at the White House despite being clearly told on camera they were not on "the list." The fall out from all of this had an enormously negative impact on myself and my events. There were many charitable supporters as well as political figures on board with my cause until that fateful November night. My "Real Housewives of DC" affiliation with the infamous couple being politically untouchable and "radioactive" caused 'me to suffer greatly. All of us affiliated with the show are impacted from the association that somehow we were a part of this "goat rodeo" fiasco! The rest of my cast mates are similarly now tarnished by the stigma of association with this couple on our show, as it continues to work itself out and the dust continues to settle. Our White House, the media, and our show were genuinely hijacked by this selfish act!

I was extremely disappointed the day that I received the call from the producers to inform me that my charity event that raised funds for Children's National Medical Center had been completely cut from the show. For me it was a dream come true to experience what felt like a princess-like wedding day that I always had wished for, which included prepping in the suite with my sweet mother and sister Emily. The entire day was flawless, I still have a big smile thinking about it! Throughout the show, we filmed the beginning concepts of the event, my children working tirelessly to help with its organization, to the delivering of the check to Children's National Medical Center. Along the way, there were long hours, stress, and late night family dinners, but all well worth it. At the end of the evening, that's me in the pink Lela Rose dress jumping for joy with pride and excitement! I could not have organized this event without the amazing support of many. I want to take the opportunity to thank all the sponsors especially our hosts, volunteers, people behind the scenes, and my family and friends for truly believing in me! I once again thank you all from the bottom of my heart as we truly did make a difference that night and showed DC a one-of-a-kind fashion and art extravaganza!

Please take a moment to watch this special day for me featured as a bonus clip.

I miss Housewives of DC very much. Bring back this series minus Salahis.

well... u did look funny but i knew u knew what was going on so if u were sleep deprived i bellleve u

I just love this show. I think the housewives are wonderful, and the Salahi's certainly add serious drama to it!

loved the show . are you going to do it again next year? so your dad was bob schmidt, grandmother name muppy greatgrandmother ciecly maiden name engels please let me know i think we are shirt tail realtives thanks donna gottsacker

would love to know the above if so i had a crush on your dad when i was 16 . he had come to visit his cousin, lucille stuteville in evanstone il.i think he was still in college thanks donna

Mary had the most intellegent comment on the show. On the reunion she voiced the opinion that Machelle and Tareq had hijacked the show. That is exactly what they did. At the party for Paul it was all about them; then the grape stomp'; the house tour with Staci; the trip to Paris; anytime the group got together first and foremost were those two. I think it was their plan to hijack the show from the beginning and it ended with the White House crashing. If Michelle was NeNe than maybe it would have been entertaining but she is not and was not.

Hi Mary, I so enjoyed watching you and your castmates this season. and I hope there is a season two, but without the Salahi's, and I also agree that the Salahi's "hijacked" the show.
You have a wonderful family, and a very handsome husband, and oyur very beautiful yourself. You both seem to love each other very much. Rich seems to be a very wise man, and love his man rules.
Mary you have a wonderful charity going on and I commend you for all of your work.
Good luck and god bless.

Mary. i really did enjoy you on the show .. i just wish you linda and Cat would have been a little more lady like on the reunion. i understand that you are upset with them for what they did to your daughter! i don't have kids but i can only imagine. but in then end of the day your only letting them win when you act like that. i am 18 years old and i know how to compose myself and you are a mother in her 40?s and you acted like a immature 5 year old. please learn to act your own age.

Mary, I totally agree with you on your comment that the Sahali's "hi-jacked" the show. I was disappointed that we didn't get the chance to know the other castmates. I couldn't stomach watching the Sahali's. I could tell from the beginning what kind of people they were and loved Cat for not putting up with it. I sure hope that if there is a season 2 the Sahali's are no where near it.

p.s. I like your darker hair color :)

I love you Mary! Your character is the coolest and funniest on the show. I love your naturally laid back style and class.

I'm sorry, but your season would have been a snooze fest if it wasn't for Michaele. And probably wouldn't have been as viewed by as many. Think about that.

Mary oh Mary. I just read your hubby's blog and all I can say is good for you that you got him. Not only is he very easy on the eyes, he is humorous and kind. May I suggest you install a gps chip in him when he asleep, because you have shown all those women in dc what a catch he is. lol Just kidding. Love your family! Hope you are back next year without you know who.

Mary, I like you & I love your personality. I came across a article I know you will be interested in reading. I immedietly thought this is where the Salahis MS story originated. Please locate a copy of Maryland Women's Journal, carroll county. The issue is October/November 2010. Read page 27, and meet Debbie McGrann, she is a REALTOR. Stacie should call Debbie and ask if she ever showed The Salahis houses ? I believe the Salahis read the story and became the storyline. I hope to see you on a new season of DC Housewives. I think you are down to earth, funny, cute, sincere, with a fabulous personality. Please continue being who you are. I too mimic and don't let anyone stop you from your fun side. You are CLASS. My best to you always. Trish

For someone above it all, you took an awful lot of glee in sticking it to Michaele at those reunion shows. Watch yourself. Its not pretty or flattering.

You three reminded me of Moe, Larry, and Curly sitting on that sofa. Yes the Sahahi's are strange, odd people, but I don't understand the level of hatred levelled against them. Michaele treated everyone with kindness throughout the series and yet you turned against her with such vindictiveness. It almost looks like jealousy. Usually that's behind such poisonous behaviour.

Hmmm - perhaps the anger is coming from the fact that the sahalis accused Mary's daughter of stealing their car and then didnt have the decency to apologize for being wrong.

What show were YOU watching?

I agree. It was jealousy. They all wanted to be on the show to promote their charities(wink-wink) but the show's primary focus was the Salahis....but the three of them added to that...when the Salahis weren't in the episode the three of them were talking about the Salahi's.

Dear Mary,
i love you girl, you are definitely my favorite housewife of all time! You're so calm, cool, collected, AND classy (even with the bottle of wine) I just wanted to let you know that i hope i'm as awesome as you when i grow up. Michaele is obviously crazy so don't let her bring you down, girl. I've really enjoyed watching you and i wish the show hadn't been hijacked by the crazies because i would of loved to see more of you and the other girls. Keep doin you.

The main reason I originally began watching the show was to learn more about what really happened with the Salahis. Mary, the silver lining for you is that people got to know and like you, and hopefully in season 2 you can get the coverage you want for your charity.

Mary-
Finally a cast of "Real Housewives" that have class, intellect, and sophistication (excluding one individual). You lead the pack. Way to go! Please convince the show to do a second season and get rid of the overwhelming drama with the "Real Liars of DC".

If thats class I dont want any.

Well, i guess Mary can no longer say that she doesn't say bad things about people.

I think it is odd that both Lynda and Mary think Tareq is bad for Michaele because they think he is bad for her…but then they verbally abuse her over and over. At least he treats her nicely.

Mary's behavior on both reunion shows was kind of childish. It was almost like those women on the sofa were in junior high the way the ganged up on Michaele.

Run from this show and save yourself - NOW!

Mary, great fund raiser. Next time opt for risers for the catwalk. We've done it both ways and the drama and accessibility to the styles is well worth the money. You can usually get a party rental company to supply the risers for free. Nice job.

I'm sad your charity event was left on the cutting room floor-- i would have rather seen that then soem of the Salahi circus.

Mary love you and your family. But like all families you have your ups and downs and I feel that is what you showed. I know I am repeating myself in all my blogs but you, Lynda, Cat, and Stacie were great. I felt so bad for you when Tareq accused your daughter of theft. You held it together and Stacie and Jason were great jumping to your rescue. I hope you all come back next year. As for Michaele and Tareq I hope they do not as I can not watch the show if they come back. I have never seen two people not own what they say or do, lie like they do, and talk in circles so bad it makes me extremely dizzy. Keep up the great work and be yourself.

Mary, you seem like a good person, get out of this show ASAP, sorry.. It suckeddo something better with your life; don't go down with the sinking ship

Mary I loved watching you on the show. You are indeed a timeless beauty and a classy woman. I had to drool over your home since it was exactly the type of designs I love in every single room. You're dining room would have looked amazing in black by the way against all the beautiful white woodwork! Some people are just behind the times. Go with your instincts, they are impeccable! I hope you are returning next season, everyone sounds as if this is the very end. :( Everyone seems abuzz about the cross you wear which reminds me of so many of my own of which Robert Lee Morris made for me out of soho in NYC. God bless and wish you everything happy!

You are an alrite gal hope you come back. Not Cat or Lynda

The bonus clip gives us all an idea of what an uplifting and wonderful experience RHDC could have been without Michaele and Tareq. I am so sorry that this footage was sacrificed. It's beautiful and I'm so happy that I read your blog today and got to see it. The REAL housewives are amazing women with so much to offer. You were glowing and looked incredible!! Lolly's art is phenomenal. I love it! Congrats to you all on your success and the success of your respective charities. ♥

Mary, I think you are a wonderful mother from what they showed of you and your family. I myself have two girls in their early twenties and are struggling to find themselves. As a mother I know how hard this is watching them trying to make their way in life. Yes it is hard to watch them make their mistakes, You just want to grab them and make things better for them. My girls are my life as your children are yours.

Mary, I am glad that you survived the show with your integrity intact.
Thanks for telling Michalea and Mr. Salami on the finale that they had hijacked the whole episode. Sad, but that was the truth and any person could find that out in ten minutes by following the chronology of the charades that the guilty pair has committed. It is also Bravo's fault for allowing this crap to be focused on the bad pair, I cant' understand poor marketing on tv.
If there is a season2, please get the other 3 ,, that means a foursome and come back and do the show right.

Your still my Fav: I love your personality, gracefulness and class.Your family is beautiful as well.Love you Cat,and Mary even Stacy has grown on me.Would love for Bravo to kick the "CRASHERS" to the curb I think The DC Wife's would be fabulous with another housewife with her own agenda!!!!!!! Cannot wait till next season..............

Mary -didnt you say in an episode that you dont get involved in grown women fights (cat and erica) but tonight during the reunion show, I saw the complete opposite. The Salehi's are what they are. Why do you care so much too shove it down their and everyone else throats. Take the higher road.

What a wonderful , wholesome person you are. And you children all seem as perfect as you. And you are an angel to charity. Wonderful!

Mary you seem like a true sweetie pie! Hope you enjoy the time off the show and hope Lolly finds her way. You seem to be a good friend to those you care about but I challenge you to treat EVERYONE the way you want to be treated (yes the Salahis included) You seem like the kind of person who can easily take the high road and set an example for the others. You are easy going, kind, fun and spirited. I really enjoyed watching you and think you have a cool, fun adorable style.

MARY YOU ARE A TRUE AND REAL FRIEND. I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW THESE PEOPLE POST SUCH NEGATIVE COMMENTS AND YET MICAHELE'S BLOG HAS NOTHING BUT POSTS PRAISING HER!! BRAVO IS A BIT BIASED!
KEEP YOUR HEAD UP

Love you Mary,

I love your mellow demeanor and great family. You have wonderful style and are great to watch!
Cat and Lynda rock too. May the Salamis pay for their multiple transgressions. I also hope people stop associating the three of you with them.

I really love how supportive you and Lynda have been of Cat during what was clearly a stressful time.

Best

You are a sweetheart but I think when you are around Linda and Cat it brings out the bad girl in you..you suddenly become more like them, mean and vindictive. Its not attractive on someone who we all like so much.
Stay away from them and be true to yourself. Set the example for them and take the high road. You have so much going for you and they don;t, jealousy is a very powerful emotion and they (mostly Lynda) cannot help herself. Stay away at all costs!

If I have to hear you say again how Michaele did your make-up in the 90s, I think I will pull my hair out. While you may not intend it to be a slam, it sounds as though you believe that she was beneath you. There are millions of people in this country that go to work everyday at blue collar jobs to support their families. We can't all be privileged like you are. Not everyone has the money to put a fingerprint lock on their closet door. Most people are just grateful to have a job and earn an honest days wage. I am not a fan of Michaele's by any means; however, I think that you have a tendancy to look down your nose at people who are not affluent like you are. If you don't really feel that way, then perhaps you should go back and rewatch the season because that's the way you come across.

I just think Mary and the others are so hurt by what Michaele and her dreadful husband have put them through during the course of this show, that mentioning her past occupation, pales in the face of the damage and hurt the Salahis (sp) dished out to tons of people on the show. I am a blue collar worker and yet understand that when we are hurt and our children are attack, we will lash back. Not saying, it's the best approach, but it is human and in this case certainly forgivable.

Mary, I just love you! You are, by far, my favorite housewife. You have so much class and style. I wish you the best with all your charity work. PLEASE TELL US WHERE YOU PURCHASED YOUR BEAUTIFUL CROSS NECKLACE......Love it.

Mary, I was appalled at your behavior at the reunion. I thought you were a better person.

Thank you for sharing you life with us this season. You look so much like your grandfather!

You are a fortunate woman in this world...you have a good husband, you are a young mom with 5 fab kids, take heed in a great social life, and have a top-secret closet, which sounds very Washingtonian.
Good luck on your giving back to your community through your charitable work. I am sure it will benefit despite the Salahi association you now have to own.

I see some people on here are mentioning how she was growing more negative toward the Salahis. Don't forget that they confronted her, in front of people, on national television, without her husband, about her daughter. Imagine how "negative" you would grow toward someone who did that

Mary, you're so cool! I'm only 20 and can't decide if I want you to be my mom or my bff. Plus, I can't blame Lolly for wanting to steal your clothes!

You are lovely, Mary! I understand how frustrating it must be for you and your other castmates to be so unfairly affected by the White House fiasco. Even though I never have been and never will be a part of the lynch mob attacking the Salahis, I definitely hate that their actions have caused you guys any pain or trouble. But you are beautiful, smart, and funny, so I know you'll rise above it!
~Lia

The Salahis usurped much of the real-world news, as well as the entire BRAVO season, not just the finale, and in doing so, I am sorry we did not get to see your charitable event. I am sure it was as elegant and lovely as you, and that you helped to make money for a worthy cause. Despite the Salahis getting the air time, which admittedly, I was waiting to witness, your charity likely will still soar from your promotion of it here, and from your glorious visibility of RHODC in general. You done good, Mary, even if people stayed away because of the association with the Salahis. That will pass. Who knew???!!!
I originally thought you might best be remembered this season for your closet, but I really do think you have etched your place as a young, hip,yet still old-fashioned mom. WOW! The world needs more of you...one who has children while young, all the while being able work at giving back.
You are beautiful and fashionable, have a great brood in the Amons and your husband is a charmer. Lucky you, Mary Schmidt Amons, lucky you!!!
And lucky us, to watch you on RHODC.
COME BACK AGAIN, puh-leeese "dahling".

Wouldn't if be great if Bravo gave Mary's charity event air time. To be honest, I don't think watching two criminals lie for an hour is more entertaining than watching people throw a fantastic benefit. Call me crazy, but I like the more positive side of life.

You are a delight, little girl! Hang in there and continue to be YOU!
