Carole Radziwill

Carole laments Sonja and George's failed romance and discusses her confrontation outfit.

on Jul 30, 20120

After our phone call, I packed for Miami and watching me pack made me dizzy. But rest assured. I can take those stairs two at a time in five-inch heels, they're my stairmaster. Most days it's the only exercise I get.

Please, don't look closely, though. I designed them myself and they're not up to code. Apparently a banister is required -- something about safety, kids.

Going Down. . .South
I have another early morning with Sonja, who is all pretty in pink and reading Glamour (gratuitous plug) -- it's the issue with my Kardashian story in it. Remember that? And speaking of Glamour, their September Fashion issue is out and I'm profiled in the Obsession section, "How to dress stylish for TV."

Here's a teaser:

"Whenever I felt nervous about a scene I put on my black leather motorcycle jacket. You have to have a piece that you just feel knockout in. And not knockout glam but knockout like 'no one can mess with me.'"

The funny thing is that I'm wearing that exact jacket in my scene with LuAnn in this week's episode. I wore the jacket and my driving gloves. I guess I was nervous! Don't mess with me.

Down in Miami, more than the weather is heating up.

Carole, Just tell me where I can get my hands in/on those driving gloves. I've developed an unhealthy obsession with the green hued ones you sport on the regular, and let's face it the black ones too. I've been all over the web, no dice. Thank you in advance.

Every time I hear Luann boast about her Native American Indian heritage, it makes me sick to my stomach. As if she's come from those reservations. Oh please, she knows nothing about being an American Native.

Carole, you're what I've been waiting to see on RHNY, so much so that I don't even think you belong with those pirates! You've got the brains, class, and real talent! A New York beauty that reflects a smart, hip, and feminine style that lends itself to native New Yorkers. NO one compares with you on the show. You're so hip and cool, you let all the others look so stale and mildewy, they are far behind you, left in the dust!  If you want to use my quote please use my name Cathy Salinger.

Walterscott Carole said a few weeks ago that her late Mother in Law had the couch custom designed and built in the 1960's and that she had been offered a ton of money for it throughout the years and would NEVER part with it! Famous couch!

Carole, I thought it was kind of rude of you to correct someone about their own heritage.  I would think LuAnn would know about her own heritage and what is right or wrong.  She may have her faults but I notice everytime you are in her presence, you look at her with a smirk or disdain.  You seem to relish in reprimanding her at every turn.

Carole -- you know I like you for a Democrat!  But you have to lighten up a bit.  What you think is politically correct may not be somewhere else in the country.  New York is a separate entity that most people in American care to have little to do with, and I live in California!  There are ways to express yourself that may not coincide with your way of thinking but be perfectly correct and acceptable elsewhere.  Maybe LuAnn was out of line in your book, but not someone elses.  Be a little bit more open minded.

I think the Kahn's genuinely like Luann, who wouldn't?   They can handle themselves, and have no need of your 'protection'.  Luann owns her ethnicity and has a great sense of humor. For you to create a political issue of this was a ridiculous ploy to demean her.  It really is a pity, as it appears that she genuinely likes you and would be a good friend.

Being 1/8 "American Indian", that IS the proper terminology to use.  I, personally, do not like "native" referenced.  This is America, we are of Indian decent, and we are NOT natives here.  Therefore... American Indian IS the proper use.

Thanks for trying to defend our Native American Indian ways with respect after watching LuAnnes WOWO and being called savages.  There is a huge population of Native Peoples in NYC area to show her the way.

Carole you hold the flag of coolness and sanity on this show. (You and Aviva.) Clearly not bad people... they just have extreme egos, pettiness/cattiness codependency, drinking issues and the list goes on. I can understand the interest as it's like a science project unfolding. Thank you for your voice- what a breath of fresh air.

Agggghhh, sometimes its best to make sure your own house is in order before you go slinging unnecessary comments. As an American Indian, I can assure you that Luann used the proper term. Native American is fine as well, however I prefer the former. I get the sense that Luann gets under your skin. That happens with people sometimes, we don't all get along!

Hi Carole!  Not a blogger usually, but just finished watching tonight's TRHONY episode, just had to say something to you - here goes - I find your intelligence rather hugmyselftheyfinallyfoundsomeonewithanoperatingbrain fabulous ~ I find your candor TOTALLY refreshing ~ and the fact that you own your words and actions completely wonderful.

Keep on doing what you do!!

Although I believe that many of Luann's comments were ignorant, I must say that you sounded a bit pretentious on tonight's episode regarding the Native American vs. American Indian discussion. I, for one, prefer to be referred to as American Indian and not Native American. There has actually been some debates and many who prefer not to hear that term (Native American). Here's a little tip... Don't get so caught up in trying to make someone look ignorant. You may, in the end, make yourself appear ignorant instead.

Ladyred35

You're my fav NYC hw... Very down to earth! Just one thing I had to say after tonight's episode regarding the whole Indian native American discussion... If you speak directly with a "native American", especially ones that still live on reservations, they actually prefer the term Indian over native American. These native cultures are as different and diverse as European countries, and they find it offensive to be lumped under one large umbrella. I have married into a family of native descent and they all use the term Indian in reference to themselves. What most label as "PC" is not always correct.

Carole you are my favorite new housewife, please do not change who you are. You have so much more class and grace than all the other ladies combined. Don't ever let them bring you down.

You need to come down to the real world and get off your high horse.  We get it that  you don't like LuAnn.  You confronted her about "speaking" to your friends - so I guess she needs your permission to talk to anyone that knows you?  She apologized for what you felt she did and you still didn't even acknowledge the apology and kept trashing her.  Based on your behavior its obvious that if anyone is jealous it is you about LuAnn.  You don't give her a break - she can't speak correctly, she talks all the time, she talks to your friends (Heaven forbid).  She's reached out to your in friendship many times and you constantly demean and criticize her - get over yourself  - thw world does not revolved around you.  So you don't like LuAnn - so what - I'm sure her life will go along perfectly well without your considered opinion.  One wonders why you're on the show at all since you're so far above everyone.

Carole, Its wonderful that you have many friends but I notice that they are friends at a distance. I find this is sad because you can't seem to make friends with any of the women who are close to you on a daily basis. You seem to talk behind everyones back. You talk about Ramona, Luann, Sonja and even Aviva. I don't think I would want a friend that is sos two-faced. I would suggest you stay with your plan of just hooking up with the males in your life.

Dear Carole

Your blog is hilarious.

I believe that I totally get your side of the situation. You have a very high regard for your friends and now you are painfully aware they you have exposed them to some crass behavior. Who wouldn't be embarrassed by such behavior? Oh, I guess Luann, Ramona and Sonja wouldn't be! Lol. Btw, did you ever notice that the last two syllables in the word 'embarrass' sounds like "bare ass"? Something about feeling exposed, I suppose.

Rajanah seems to be such a lovely soul and Naeem's clothing designs are out of this world. Personally, I wouldn't be able to speak much less ask him for a loaner but then, maybe that's because I'm not a diva. ;)

I don't know how you can possibly enjoy being on this show but I enjoy watching you. I'll quit watching when you quit the show.

Carole- You are now my favorite HONY. Shame on Ramona for those atrocious manners in the pool in Miami, followed by her shameless attempts to be flirtatious with Aviva's overtanned Dad (and hence once more manipulate camera attention away from everyone else) even though I suspect Sonia probly appreciated it. Aviva- some family members are best kept off national television. And we all have at least one in every family..some of us with many more than others. FYI, CelebrityNetWorth.com has you (Carole) as the richest HONY at $50 million dollars. Heather-10 million. Aviva- 20 million, Ramona 18 million, LuAnn at 2 million and Sonia at a negative 20 million. I am sure these figures are wildly inaccurate but thought you and readers might get a hoot.

@ What Remains was wonderful and I will be reading your next book and watching the TV show. LOVED the shopping conversation with LuAnn. She WAS embarrassed, or at least surprised anyone would point out to her how ungracious and ill-mannered she is and she could not say a real word about it.

Carole...I love you! There is such a sense of normalcy and fairness about you...As far as the Miami show...My God, Ramona was out of control. First of all, that behavior in the pool, then desperately trying to flirt with that overtanned Dad because she cant stand anyone else getting any kind of attention. BTW, Celebrity Net Worth has you as the richest HONY at $50 million. Ramona is at 18 million, Heather is at 10, Aviva is 20 and LuAnn is at 2. Poor Sonia is at a negative 20 million. Know those figures are wildly unpredictable but thought you and readers might get a kick.

I am not a fan of Luanne's but I just watched the native, indian, aboriginal clip and have to say that while political correctness has deleleted the "Indian" word from children's books -- literally; my son's second grade reader had the word whited out-- the term is not the same as other racially charged words.  I had asked my husband years ago what he preferred to be called (he is a "treatised"  Plains Cree member of the James Smith Band in Canada) and he said Native American, American Indian, etc. it didn't matter to him and neither reference bothered him.  There is, however, a lot more predjudice against the aboriginals in Canada than in the States as they make up a much larger segment of the population.

Luann asked about possibility of borrowing a dress from a DRESS MAKER, she did not ask stranger for a kidney! What is your problem? You designer friend came off as a snob. Nobody is good enough for Naeem Khan with exception for the first lady, not even you who is Like a family…but never got his dress…hmmm…

You don’t seem very happy and I am convinced your ironic approach is your cover for bitterness. I really hope you find happiness in life again. And please, stop comparing anything you do to birthing a child. No need for Freud’s analysis here…

Carole, you are new to the show so I don't know that much about you.   I read all of your blogs and you write SO well! I enjoyed reading your point of view regarding episodes.

I must ask the question, not that you have the answer,  is WHY did Aveva try to fix her dad up with Sonja?  Was she getting back at her for the "tasteless" entertainment at the anniversary party?

I HAVE to tell you that you looked absolutely gorgeous at the party in which you wore your hair up with the large earrings.  You looked stunnng, very bohemian!

I do not understand LuAnne.  Until this season I never realized she was so insecure.  You picked up on it right away.  You seem to be able to read people quite well.

Oh, I must commend you on your poise with Aveva's Dad at the dinner table.

Brava, Carol. You are a breath of fresh air on RHNY with your TIC yet down-to-earth style.  I was appalled when Ranjani told you what LouAnn did.  Odd..she sings about "class" yet has none.  I'm delighted you joined the show and I certainly second the comments of Soccer74.

You are a nice break in the show to even things out. I enjoy you and Avivia and I think you have it all together but seem very alone and protected at the same time. I like that you can diffuse a situation a bit but also give it back in a subtle way. I think you handled the Luann issue very well and yes you introduced your friend to another, but that didn't mean that Luann could take advantage of the situation, especially after one meeting. That seems rude to me, model or not! Keep writing, you do it so well.

Hi Carole,

Having known you before your addition to the Real Housewives, I can tell you I have always enjoyed your past interviews I've read and/or watched, and have enjoyed you thoroughly this season.

I've especially admired your "handling" for lack of a better term of the other ladies in the cast.  You have taken people for who they are.  You aren't trying to change them, nor are you confronting them on their behavior every other second for having committed some sort of "offense" to you.

Coming from a life that's included a series of matters that greatly outweigh the importance or drama of what can happen during a Housewives season of taping, you are clearly comfortable with each of the ladies and seem to take their personality quirks or occasional offensive behaviors with a grain of salt.  And that is soooo refreshing on these shows...too many people take too much too seriously.  It's awesome to see someone I can relate to, in that it's clear to you what in life is really a big deal and what is not so much of a big deal.

This is where LuAnn comes in.  Because you're new to the cast, and maybe you weren't a viewer, perhaps you were unaware that LuAnn does have a history of these types of situations with the other ladies in the cast, including a spat with Ramona over what?  A designer not dressing her!

And maybe you don't bother to read her blog but the paragraph covering the dress situation was humorous to say the least.  She slams you for not "saying it to my face" immediately, the all too familiar siren song of the reality television show.  "Say it to my face."  Furthermore, she takes basically ZERO responsibility for her doing in any of this.  And THAT'S classic LuAnn.  You likely won't find her making herself accountable for much of what she says or does to you or any other NY Housewife that is taken offensively.  She couldn't bring herself to just SIMPLY take the bullet for the dress thing, she had to zing you and your friends.  In the end, you might find that while Ramona is herself her own issue, you'll likely discover she is at least an honest friend.  Not sure all of the other NY Housewives would credit LuAnn with the same.

I hope we continue to see the same of you this season.  Again, it's so nice to see someone so genuinely accepting of everyone's personalities and issues while at the same time, not allowing yourself to be intimidated or manipulated.

I'm sorry, but if you're so protective of your friends, then don't introduce them to your friends.  Although Luann is not one of my fav's, I thought your comment about her being a "friend jumper" was just rude.  You seem to have a lot of "not nice" things tosay to the women you your around, however you are ever so flirty with the men.

How can you like the term American Indian when the term was falsely coined by Columbus when he though he had made it to India?  Native Americans were here long before he got here and GAVE them that name. @Barbarajean To be on this show she has to talk about them. It's part of the job. Read her book, she does have great girlfriends. Just because these "housewives" aren't her friends doesn't mean she isn't a girls girl. Google her. She's had a very interesting life. Full of friends.

Murphy-cat

@Geneva115 Well, that's just silly. Carole is clearly much brighter and imore articulate than any of the other women. She doesn't sound bitter at all - she just shares her musings about the previous episode, as all the housewife bloggers agree to do, and she Is bemused by much of the behavior she witnesses. She doesn't sound bitter at all, although given the losses she's endured, I'm sure it would be easy to fall into that trap. She's very honest, and is a clear eyed observer of human nature. I find it amusing that so many women got honked off when Carole casually compared the difficulty of whelping a child to whelping a book. I thought her tongue was firmly in her cheek - she was simply making a point - and if you read the beautifully rendered first chapter of her memoir (free on her website - no investment required!)- you'll discover that she's a terrific writer. I'm sure you'll agree that it's impossible to compare that single chapter to Luann's entire Klassy Kountess book (written with the help of a ghost writer, to boot). The former can be classified as literature. The latter is simply one of AC's scary Bravolebrity's vanity projects. But heaven forbid anyone dare imply that ANYTHING is as difficult as childbirth, even if they're mostly joking...

Hogan

@Geneva115 @ you could not be more wrong. Carole is absolutely spot-on. LuAnn was a friend jumper (which I thought was a good new phrase that I will use) and completely out of line morally and showed no manners or attention to protocol that she claims to know so well. Yeah, LuAnn, some people are born with elegance and it was not you!

Hogan

@amorenomore @you are out of your mind. Anyone with any manners and sense of decorum would NOT have begged a dress for an event from someone just met. Who would think that was OK. Oh, another 'friend jumper'. Great line, I think....

I agree! Isn't that how people usually make new friends, your either introduced by a mutual friend or you find a common ground with someone and immediately you become fast friends. katyama

I like Luann.  Carole's  'one up' comment and 'friend jumper' remark are small minded and come from apparent  jealousy.  I'm amused by her value judgement between the rarely photographed Michelle Obama and Luann.  I sense the designer and his wife have a genuine affection and respect for beautiful Luann.  She is a nice woman, a former model, more visible and would probably look far better in his couture than the 'first lady' does.  I think Luann handled herself very well when 'toxic' Carole confronted her about this while shopping.  How about the possessive 'three limbed' embrace Carole gave the designer's wife at the 'face yoga' party?

HousewifeAl
HousewifeAl

@amorenomore So a person introducing a friend to another friend who may be in some sort of position to do favors (as we all pretty much might be), must accept and expect said friend to feel welcome to ask a favor??  This isn't LuAnn's first time feeling possessive over a designer.  She sure can quote the manners rules but doesn't always abide, does she?

@UThousewife  @Barbarajean I suppose you might be right. Afterall, this is reality TV. It just bugs me that they can change their character so much and just can't be themselves. We never see the other side of their lives unforftunately and what they portray on the program only makes them look bad if not badder. I still don't like the way Carole treats women that  are her equal. She seems to have let the princess go to her head.

sea888

@Beyoncca I agree with you 100 percent.  Carole's main objective seems to be to discredit LuAnn.  Carole claims to be noncompetitive and then she tears LuAnn down at every turn.  I'm not a fan of Carole's at all.

amorenomore
amorenomore

 @HousewifeAl

The point is....if she didn't like what Luann did, that was one thing.  But to call her a friend jumper??  If I introduce my friends to each other, irregardless of whether or not they can do favors for anyone, & one of them invites the other to lunch, or whatever the case may be, should be a good thing.  I would not dream of calling them a "friend jumper" b/c I was not included in their gathering.  What happens with them is between them at that point.  Carole should have left it between the two friends she introduced.
