Captain Sandy Yawn Reveals Her Handy New Talent
The Below Deck Mediterranean captain showed off the unexpected skill alongside her fiancée, Leah Shafer.
Captain Sandy Yawn has made huge waves within the yachting world. Since joining the male-dominated industry more than three decades ago, the Below Deck Mediterranean captain has broken the proverbial glass ceiling and established herself as one of the most revered figures in the game. In addition to her philanthropic and publishing work, the captain has secured multiple accolades throughout her storied career, like earning the Distinguished Crew Award for the International Super Yacht Society and becoming the first woman to captain the Sirocco megayacht.
However, Sandy’s talents extend far beyond the maritime realm, as she also has a knack for skincare.
On Wednesday, October 18, the Fort Lauderdale native posted a TikTok video that highlighted her makeup-removal skills. The clip showed Sandy and her fiancée, Leah Shafer, inside their bathroom while dressed in their PJs. The captain said she’s always been interested in the beauty business and was confident she could learn to do skin and makeup.

The video then cut to Leah — a certified esthetician — sitting on the edge of the bathtub as Sandy started rubbing product in her hands.
“So we take the Pond’s cold cream—” she began before Leah endorsed the moisturizing makeup remover.
“I have to have Pond’s cold cream,” Leah said. “I have it everywhere I go.”
Sandy then applied a generous amount of cream to Leah’s face and began working the product into the skin.
“So I apply like this, yes, and I go like this,” she said. “Make sure you get into the nose crevices… I need to apply more Pond’s cold cream.”

After multiple applications, Sandy requested some feedback.
“Am I doing this right? So do you rub it back and forth?” she asked, after Leah revealed she uses L’oreal’s waterproof makeup.
“Yeah, until you can’t feel the mascara,” Leah said.
“Oh, I gotta rub a while,” Sandy joked. “It’s good for the arms.”
Leah reshared the clip in an Instagram post that received dozens of comments, including a sweet one from her fiancée.
“I love taking your makeup off,” Sandy wrote, “because you are so beautiful without it!”

Elsewhere in the clip, Sandy reminded fans she’s “always wanted to have a hair salon”; however, she's made it clear she had no interest in learning cosmetology. She touched on the subject in a recent interview with Stellar, when she was asked about the other jobs she could see herself doing.
“… Secretly I’ve always wanted to own a hair salon,” Sandy said. “I don’t want to learn how to do hair, I just like the camaraderie. It’s always a fun vibe when you go get your hair done. My other option would be a daycare for puppies and kids. I love puppies and I love kids – seems like a stellar option to us!”
