Here's Why Below Deck Med's Captain Sandy Lets Her Girlfriend Decide What They Eat

Below Deck Mediterranean Captain Sandy Yawn recently went public about her relationship, confirming she's seriously dating Denver-based gospel singer Leah Shafer. The Below Deck Med boss even moved from Los Angeles to Denver to be with her new love.

And when it comes to deciding what the pair does on dates — specifically what they eat when they're together — well, Sandy says, that's all Leah. "I mean, I’m one of those people [who's laid back about food]," Sandy told The Feast. "I’m not that person [who has to decide]: As a captain, we constantly make decisions. When I’m with someone else, i don’t want to make a decision. I don’t want to choose."

And that makes a lot of sense. Sure, Sandy might agitate for a particular movie, say, if there's something she's eager to see. But if the date involves food, you'll likely find the pair at Denver's True Food Kitchen restaurant — think bowls, soups, salads, bowls, and lots of veggie-packed salads. 

"That’s her favorite and I just follow," Captain Sandy told us. "Leah loves True Food, so we’re always at True Food."

Beyond that? Leah is gluten intolerant, Sandy explained, and she accommodates. Whereas these days, Sandy doesn't have many dietary restrictions — even though she previously told The Feast that she tries to limit eating fish and even considered going vegan.
