Rainbows and Ponies

Shawn lets us in on the truth about event-planning, and sides with Bethenny on the christening debacle.

When people find out what I do, they get all wide-eyed and excited simply for the fact they think planning weddings and parties is filled with rainbows and ponies. The simple truth is: it's not. Don't get me wrong; I absolutely love what I do! I love making people's dreams come true, I love watching the smiles on their faces when they see their party come to life and I even love getting down in the trenches when it comes to pre-planning the event with detail after detail. I hate to admit it, but I'm an anal retentive person; super meticulous at everything. Unfortunately however there are so many young people out there that think planning parties is all glitz and glam with details being the last thing on their mind. They think it's red carpets and champagne. It's not. It's a lot of office work, a lot of phone calls, and a lot of meetings.

As my company begins to grow we are in the process of looking to expand (the business, not my mid-section). Part of that expansion includes interns. We've had some great ones and some not so great ones. One of the great ones happens to be Meagan. She went from intern to full- time employee in about a year. From the get-go she got it! She understands what it takes to get the job done and that planning parties isn't all rainbows and ponies. We absolutely love her because she is a hard worker and she knows it a team effort.

I can't speak for Michael or Meagan, but I know I look forward to expanding the company into something great. How soon that will happen? Not sure, but I feel we are on the road to something fabulous!

I must tell you the more I get to know Gina, the more I love her. It's the silent ones that always make me laugh. She has an amazing sense of humor and a huge heart. As much as Bethenny and Jason took Gina in, she in turn took them in…They are the quintessential modern family. The more I watch the more I want to see.

I think Gina's heart was in the right place when she wanted to bless Bryn in her church. But I agree with Bethenny and Jason; things took a turn they weren't comfortable with and when they removed themselves from the situation they did exactly what they were supposed to do as parents. I commend them for setting boundaries. It's their home, their daughter, their rules.

And I love that Julie is Bryn's godmother. You can see it in Julie's actions and in her eyes how much she adores Bryn…She's the perfect fit. For as crazy as Bethenny's life is, she is beginning to form the perfect modern family, and I couldn't be more happy for her and Jason. They deserve all the happiness and joy in the world!
