5 Essential Rules For Dressing Like an 'Odd Mom Out'
Rule No. 1: You can be edgy and still wear bows.
Get ready: Odd Mom Out season two premieres tonight. And while we're dying to see what Brooke, Jill, and co. have been up to, we're equally excited to see the fashion that costume designer Staci Greenbaum has been busily pulling together. So while we wait (impatiently) for 10/9c to roll around, here's a look back at some of the style lessons we learned from Jill's girly-with-edgy character in season one.
1. Borrow From the Boys
Jill's character layers like no one else. In this scene, Staci paired a men's dress shirt from Uniqlo with Haute Hippy's black-leather harness, which had a jeweled neckline. On the bottom, Jill wore a pleated, black-leather accordion skirt from Top Shop.
Jill also dabbled in menswear here, wearing a men's Ralph Lauren cricket sweater with an Old Navy button-down Oxford—also men's. The tights are Wolford.
2. Put a Bow on It
In this scene, Jill had traded in her custom edge for a ladies-who-lunch (in the park) kind of look. Still, she slayed. Her pink Kate Spade jacket was decked with bows, and she wore it over a raw-edge party dress by Milly.
Jill also embraced the bow in this silk D&G dress.
3. Sweet is Always In Style
Why stop at bows? Jill took the sweetness one step farther in this velvet burnout heart dress by Marc Jacobs.
In this scene, the odd mom wore a cute, Peter Pan collar blouse by Red Valentino, and a vintage black wool skirt. Note the shoes: Jill wears these Chanel Victorian booties with covered buttons in several season-one episodes.
4. Mix High and Low Labels
We'll admit it: this scene gave us a little bit of coat—and belt—envy. Jill wore an olive wool coat from Joseph, with a Funk Plus studded belt around the waist. Underneath, she wore an ivory lace dress by Top Shop.
5. Laser-Cut Patterns Add a Cool Edge
So, Jill wasn't crazy about the hours-long tasting dinner she got sucked into here. But, we're pretty nuts about her Tory Burch leather laser-cut blue dress, which she wore with Miu Miu pumps.
A laser-cut dress—this one by Alice Temperley—made another appearance in this (slightly awkward) scene.
