6 Celeb-Approved Swimwear Trends to Copy This Summer

From sporty to strappy and everything in between.

By Adele Chapin

Do you start eyeing new swimsuits as soon as the thermometer cracks 70 degrees? Same, right here. We're rationalizing it this way — even the most jam-packed closets can fit one more bikini, right? That's why we're getting inspired by how It Girls like Gigi Hadid and Ashley Graham do the beach. Here are six au courant celeb-approved swim trends, along with the brands who are jumping on board with these styles.

The Trend: One-shoulder, as worn by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

For awhile there, we had so many one-shouldered going-out-tops. Is this aughts-era style inching back? Luckily, designers today are making asymmetrical swim tops feel modern. Bonus, this seems like it would be extra secure, as in no worries about a wardrobe malfunction.

The Trend: Off-the-shoulder bikini tops, as worn by Alessandra Ambrosio

This summer is still going to be all about the off-the-shoulder trend, and that even includes bikinis. Might not be the most functional to backstroke in, but it looks adorable.

The Trend: Sporty, as worn by Emily Ratajkowski

Model and faux bob expert Emily Ratajkowski posts many bikini shots on Instagram, but we love the clean lines of this simple white suit. This is the trend to “add to cart” if fuss and frills aren’t your thing.

The Trend: Glam cover-up, as worn by Taraji P. Henson

You could wear jean cutoffs and an old tee over your suit, or you could make like Taraji, shown here wearing a MuurSwagg printed Dashiki dress to the beach. This is definitely inspiration to upgrade our swim cover-up situation!

The Trend: Super strappy bikinis, as worn by Gigi Hadid

Gigi Hadid fears no tan lines in her barely-there string bikini. If you want to flaunt it, this is the suit: just don’t get tangled up in these strappy options.

The Trend: Lace-up suit, as worn by Ashley Graham

The lace-up bodysuit trend worn with jeans has been going strong for awhile now, but it might make even more sense as a swimsuit. Brands are taking the lace-up detail and running with it to dress up one-pieces.
