Ballet Dancers Are Furious About Kendall Jenner's Latest 'Vogue' Spread
Some think Kendall's Vogue photos aren't totally en pointe.
In Kendall Jenner's latest Vogue España spread, the model languidly stretches in ballet slippers, poses in tutus, and lounges in leg warmers. A video that accompanies the dreamy spread shows Kendall dancing around a sun-bathed studio, while she describes herself in a voiceover: "I love to be a kid, to run around like a child, just not caring," she says.
Well, some cared about having the model portray a dancer in the spread. The comments on Kendall's Instagram page mostly echoed the sentiment of one dismayed person, who wrote: "Next time, get Misty Copeland to do a shoot like this..." Another said: "This is so insulting to professional dancers and aspiring professional dancers. 100 percent a joke." And still another took things up a notch: "Absolutely vile. This is not ballet."
Kendall's everyday fans (ex-fans?) weren't the only ones to weigh in on Vogue's inciting feature. Abby Lee Miller—the Dance Moms star herself—was quick to offer her opinion on the issue. "I don’t make it a habit of commenting on all the dancers that post pics with incorrect technique. I would never get anything else done! But I cannot be a fan of this shoot," the dance company owner wrote on Kendall's Instagram page. "There are so many amazing dancers in the world…Kendall Jenner is not one of them! Shame on Momager Kris Jenner!!! She never made these kids take dance class. She better get North West to the @aldcstudiola before it’s too late!" To be fair, though, North West already knows her way around a tutu.
