Color-Changing Hair Dye Is Now a Thing—But Is It Safe?
It's like a mood ring for your hair.
For quite some time now, unicorn and rainbow-inspired hairstyles have literally taken over Instagram. So it was only a matter of time before someone took this trend to the next level. By now, you’ve probably caught a glimpse of the latest hair innovation on your Instagram feed, but in case you haven’t, get ready to freak out—because color-changing hair dye now exist. And it's absolutely mesmerizing.
After several months of teasers, hair-color brand Pravana has officially announced the launch of its Vivids Mood Color collection, a heat-activated product that changes colors as heat is applied to it. While the product doesn’t officially launch until September 1st, several lucky hair enthusiasts have been able to get their hands on it already, and have been sharing the magical results all over social media.
Just look at this hair sorcery.
Best of all, you don’t even have to use a hot tool to see the color-changing results. The unique formula reacts to any exposure to heat, whether you step out into the sun, or simply run your fingers through your hair, as you can see below.
As fun as it may look, one question instantly popped into my mind. Is it safe? Apparently it is. "There’s no risk in using it. It does not damage your hair. You don’t have to pre-lighten your hair. You can put on various levels, but the brighter the hair, the lighter the color will look. It does lay on top of the hair. It’s temporary. You can change your color day in, and day out. It’s not dye," Pravana product development manager," Lissette Cruz told Allure.
According to Pravana's website, the hair treatment will only be available for a limited time in select salons. Therefore if you've been looking to get in on the rainbow hair fun commitment-free, now is definitely the time to try it.
