5 Ways to Be a Great Wedding Guest

Once you’re in your mid-20s, you’ve likely spent a good deal of time searching through wedding registries, trying to cobble together a gift that somewhat makes sense (a salad bowl, a pan and a dish towel?) without spending a million dollars. Is this gift unique or thoughtful? Nope. But it’s exactly what the bride and groom want and as an invited guest, you need buy them a gift.

Going rogue from the wedding registry is typically something I give a firm finger wag to—no, no, no. But here’s the thing: You shouldn’t go off-registry to buy the couple a blender or a colander or a set of glasses, because they took the time to pick out the products they specifically desire and receiving a stray gift set from you will throw them totally off-kilter. (And if you forget to include a gift receipt? Let’s not even go there!)

But there is one exception to the going-rogue rule, and that’s the considerate gift. Something that you’ve put time and effort into researching and ordering, and something that will commemorate their wedding day and celebrate them as a couple.

Good news for you, we found just the gift. South Korean artist Hyunji Lee creates custom drawings of couples on their wedding day that you can purchase for just $75 via Society6. Once you send a photo of the couple to Lee, she can turn the image around within a few days and shipping takes four to 14 days after the item has been purchased.

Sent to you as a 17- by 20-inch print on matte paper with a one inch border for framing, you'll also get the digital file and can opt to frame the drawing through Society6 for a fee ranging from $43-$98. You can also add the image to evertyhing from throw pillows and cell phone cases to a shower curtain and coffee mug—depending on how thoughtful you want to be, of course. Regardless of the how you package the gift, years after the wedding, when the couple has long forgotten who gifted them their knives set, they'll look back at the portrait you commissioned and remember exactly who was considerate enough to go the extra mile.
