As parents of two school-age children, my husband and I log some serious hours on the sidelines each weekend and I have to say that I am embracing my new title of “soccer mom” with pride. The games are a blast, we’re spending time outside and best of all, we’re together as a family. It’s a win win—that is until you get caught in a torrential downpour without an umbrella or game time overlaps with dinner you’re relying on the snack shack’s sugary-offerings for nourishment.
The moral of the story: Whether you’re on a soccer field or in the baseball bleachers for hours on end, you need to do a little pre-planning when it comes to weather, food and drinks or something to make halftime go by a bit more quickly. (Thank God for Kindles!) Below we have rounded up 12 must-have items ever sideline-sitting parent needs, because you don’t want to miss your daughter's play of the year when you’re in line at that darn snack shack or charging your phone in the car. That’s right, we’re here to set you up for an undefeated season on the sidelines. Scooooore!
Coleman Oversized Quad Chair with Cooler
No one wants to lug a clunky beach chair to the field when this foldable, compact option is available (complete with a storage pocket to keep keys, sunglasses or any personal items you tote with along!). The padded seat and backrest will keep you comfy from kick off until the last whistle blows and did we mention it has a built-in arm rest soft cooler to keep up to 4 drinks chill? Total win!
ShedRain Bubble Umbrellas
When the rainstorm hits you don’t want to be caught off guard. Plan ahead and keep this umbrella in the trunk of your car. Also “The Bubble” is clear so you can tuck yourself dryly under it without missing a play!
Smart Planet Eco Double Silicon Lunch Box
These collapsible lunch boxes are perfect to pack when gametime overlaps with mealtime. With a space for a sandwich or salad and 2 snacks, you can all enjoy lunch without having to deal with wrappers or trash that comes along with individually packed food. Once you are done these collapse for easy storage in your purse.
Baller Hat Run
Keep it sporty (and cute!) with this light weight, sweat-wicking cap. Bonus: It protects your face from the sun, which is especially helpful for when the game goes into overtime.

Picnic Time Extra-Large Blanket Tote
With its fleece top and water-resistant backing this blanket is perfect to spread out on the ground without worrying about wet grass. It folds up to a compact tote and has an adjustable carry strap, so you can throw in over your shoulder or into your tote as you head to the field. Editor's Tip: If an unexpected rain shower pops up, wrap it around you to stay dry!
Of course you want to focus on your kids' winning goal, but believe me when I say that there is ample downtime while you're waiting for the game to start and during halftime and time outs. And what's the best way to avoid small talk with the other parents? Break out a good book, of course! Toss your Kindle Oasis—which, by the way, is the thinnest and lightest Kindle, and is the only to have a battery life so long it's measured in weeks, rather than hours—and get caught up on your latest book to pass the time! It also comprises the beloved Paperwhite display so that you can consume chapter after chapter even on th sunniest day.
MosQuitO Repellent Reusable Clip
There is nothing worse that being stuck on a field when it’s feeding time for mosquitos. These repellent clips are 100 percent natural (mixing lavender, eucalyptus and citronella) and are perfect to clip onto your belt, chair or cooler to keep the bugs at bay.
DxO ONE Camera
Let's face it: Smartphone camers just don't cut it when you're capturing family history. Investing in this mini camera is worth every penny—you can use it as a standalone camera or attach to your iPhone or iPad via lighting connector and then instantly share your crisp and clear shots via text or Facebook, Instagram and more (images live in your photo library). With the ISO range and shutter speed of a professional camera, this option is perfect way to get the up close snapshot without having to run about on the field and embarrass little Billy.
Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream Spf 30
Logging all those hours in the outdoor can be brutal on your skin, so make sure you stock up on a nourishing, SPF-packed face moisturizer to avoid burns (and wrinkles!). Kiehl’s is the best of the best in our humble opinion.
Jackery Bar Pocket-Sized Ultra Compact Portable Charger
The reality is we need to be connected whether it’s checking in on work email or coordinating your other children’s schedule or calling your spouse to say “we are in extra innings, I will be grabbing dinner on the way home!” Small enough to keep in a pocket but powerful enough to keep your phone charged up to 3 times, this portable phone charger comes in handy when you see the red 1% staring back at you.
Coleman Camp Wagon in Silver
So all of this gear is fab—but getting it all on the field is not so fab, especially if you are carrying children or holding your dog’s leash while balancing the team snack. Problem solved with this collapsible wagon that is compact enough to toss in your trunk, but large enough to hold up to 150 pounds worth of gear.
Arrow Boost Lip Balm
Sun and wind and screaming at the ref for that ridiculous call are just a few of the factors that can lead to majorly chapped lips. And because you want all of your attention focused on the game—and not your flaky lips—arm yourself with Arrow Boost, which not only heals and moistens, but also adds just the right amount of color to your puss. Because no one said you need to look dowdy on the sidelines.
