Exclusive! Kim Zolciak Dishes on Her Jawline-Defining Treatment
"The numbing cream helped."
Good news, beauty-obsessed people in the constant pursuit of perfection: Kim Zolciak-Biermann is revealing one of her many beauty secrets, a relatively unknown treatment called Ultherapy. The treatment combats the look of saggy skin.
"I had it done in February," says the #RHOA personality, wife, and mom who opted for the non-surgical treatment to improve the look and feel of her jawline. "I thought it was uncomfortable. The numbing cream helped though."
So what exactly is Ultherapy, anyway, and how does it breathe life into tired and aging skin?
"Ultherapy delivers a focused ultrasound beam that bypasses the superficial skin layers and delivers energy directly to the fibrous tissues of the subcutaneous fat and muscle, thereby tightening and lifting them," explains Dermatologist S. Manjula Jegasothy, MD, of Miami Skin Institute in Coral Gables, Florida. "Since ultrasound technology has enjoyed widespread medical use for more than 50 years—think of pregnancy sonograms—we know the technology is very safe and now extremely effective when put to cosmetic use. The jawline, where Ms. Zolciak received the treatment, is the most popular place to get Ultherapy because it is the first FDA indication for the device and still remains the most popular area treated today."
The treatment doesn't come cheap though, and generally ranges anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000 per area depending on the doctor you see and where you choose to have your procedure. While Ultherapy offers a no-downtime approach to perking up the face and other body parts, it definitely takes a few months for the treated areas to regenerate and show improved tone and texture.
Dr. Jegasothy shares: "The ideal patient is anyone who is noticing sagging of any soft tissue on the face, neck or body. The most common areas are the brows, cheeks, neck and décolleté. Since I practice in body-conscious Miami, I am also doing several Ultherapy treatments a week on various body areas. I can lift sagging upper arms, thighs, buttocks and even calves."
"I feel like I look more refreshed," Kim told Lookbook exclusively. "It's non-invasive, no down time. The downside is waiting the couple months to notice the difference."
