Take a Virtual Tour of Sarah Jessica Parker's First Boutique

Here's proof that Sarah Jessica Parker is a perfectionist.

By Adele Chapin

Last week, we found out that Sarah Jessica Parker was opening her very first store for her SJP brand —and shocker, it wasn't going to be in NYC. Instead, the boutique is tucked inside MGM National Harbor, a luxury $1.4 billion casino and resort located in Maryland on the banks of the Potomac. As a DC resident, you can bet I was at the boutique the moment it opened up for a press preview.

The SJP store was just as it seemed on Instagram: towers of Lucite shelving loaded with candy-colored heels. This was one-stop SJP shopping. Her branded fragrance Lovely was here, along with SJP candles and a rack of little black dresses with tutu-like netting. And there are visuals to match: a giant photo of Sarah Jessica that looked like it could be a promo shot for Sex and The City hung behind the cash register.

I picked up a hot pink-and-red heel (it looked like this SJP outfit in shoe form), admired it, and then put it back down on a shelf. Next thing I knew, Sarah Jessica Parker herself was striding across the store and headed right towards me. She wore a ladylike black dress and a light blue ribbon tied around her wrist, just like the grosgrain ribbon signature on the back of her shoes.

“It goes like this,” she said as she picked up hot pink heel and arranged it just so, until the toe of the shoe was pointing in the exact right direction. You know what, it probably did look better that way, which is proof you've got to sweat the details.

“I love that shoe,” I told her. “Feel free to buy it!” she said cheerfully, ever the saleswoman. For $395, I need to think about it, but maybe it would’ve been worth it if she had signed the sole like she did for other shoppers.

Clearly, SJP had a vision for this boutique. I should’ve known what a perfectionist she is from all the behind-the-scenes photos she’s been posting on Instagram, like candid shots with construction workers and videos of the shoe install. She told me that in addition to the shop's fancy seating and shelving, she picked up vintage accent pieces at thrift stores and on Etsy.

Take a look at photos of the very first SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker store below, which opens on December 9. And if I get lucky at the slot machines at the MGM casino down the hall, this is the first place I'm taking my winnings.
