The Yeezy Season 5 Show Was Totally Mysterious, But Here's A Peek Inside
Watch the finale from the front row.
He did it! After wild speculation about Kanye West's Yeezy Season 5 presentation (here's our own), the rapper-cum-designer pulled off a drama-free show. So we think, anyway.
There was a no-social-media rule for the press at this afternoon's event on Pier 59, which made it hard to know exactly what was going on. Naturally, caused us to refresh Yeezy Mafia's Instagram, like, every five seconds. That was actually a bit dramatic, right there.
Vogue.com also gave us frequent updates in our hour of FOMO. So, thanks to those two trusty sources, here's what we do know:
First, the show had a unique format that used a video of models—rather than a runway format—to showcase the new clothes and kicks. Only after the artsy film ended did the models walk.
There was a refreshing cast of models here, too: One of the stars was Halima Aden, who grabbed headlines when she became the first beauty-pageant contestant to wear a hijab.
Isn't she lovely? The show also featured the first-ever Yeezy denim, as well as those oft-teased Calabasas track pants.
And, there was a new sneaker style, to boot. (Serendipitous pun not intended!)
The new shoe, which comes in colorways like "triple black" and teal and white, is bulkier than previous Yeezy styles. Interesting, right? But we know what you're really after.
