Anila & Kiran Sajja Reveal They Are Way Over Budget on Their New Home Build
The Married to Medicine fashion blogger's husband said: "The dream house is becoming a nightmare."
On the April 4 episode of Married to Medicine, Anila Sajja and her husband, Dr. Kiran Sajja, stopped by their new-construction home in Alpharetta, Georgia. As a cabinet maker, an interior designer, and other workers bustled around the 14,000-square-foot digs, the couple walked through their future dream home — or is it a dream?
Things got a bit heated when the duo discussed their lighting budget. While Anila had a vision of three massive chandeliers hanging from the foyer, her husband had three smaller lighting fixtures in mind. "Why do they have to be small?" the fashion blogger asked, pointedly. Then, she decisively told the designer: "They're gonna be big." It seems this isn't the only time Anila has had to manage her husband's expectations.
In his interview, Kiran shared: "Our initial budget, when we were looking to build a house, was 1.7 [million dollars]." Anila cut in: "We're almost at 3 million now, at this point." Kiran's retort? "It's literally like our country's budget. We're just minting money apparently. But unfortunately, we don't have a mint and we don't have a printing machine. So I don't know what the hell's going on!"
As the house tour continued, Anila found a few things she wanted to be changed. One room had floors that were too slippery, while some proposed octagonal tiles didn't meet her approval.
And later, having shared that his work in elective surgery saw a significant drop due to COVID-19, the doctor said to his wife: "My goal, since we got married, was to build you a dream house. Obviously, with what's going on right now, we have to kind of pull back a little bit."
But as the couple stood in their home, Anila defended her perceived pickiness. "I'm looking to build a dream house that we can live in for 10 years," she reasoned. "Exactly," Kiran responded. "The dream house is becoming a nightmare."
