Florals! Trains! Pearls! See All of Christian Siriano's Stunning Met Gala Designs
The Project Runway designer created some head-turning ensembles for the May 1 New York City fashion affair.
Several stars stepped out for the first Monday in May for New York City's annual Met Gala, and four of them stunned in dazzling designs by Bravo’s Project Runway mentor Christian Siriano.
The evening, which took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 1, paid tribute to German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld who worked at various fashion houses before serving as creative director at Chanel in 1983 until his death in 2019. Per the night's theme, "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," Christian crafted gorgeous ensembles for model Karen Elson, actor Harvey Guillen, Broadway star Alex Newell, and pop singer Ava Max.
Kicking off the night of dreamy elegance was Harvey (who Christian also dressed for the 2023 Oscars) rocking a "custom pink French tweed tuxedo and appliqué roses" to "honor Karl," Christian captioned an Instagram post of the look. The What We Do in the Shadows actor paid even more tribute to the Chanel designer with strands of white pearls, pairing his pink suit with black patent leather brogues by Christian Louboutin.
Also wearing gorgeous, oversized florals was Karen, who Christian noted was "covered in 650 custom[-]made organza and velvet flowers" over a black sheer long-sleeve dress with a dramatic train.
Alex, who wrote via Instagram that wearing Christian's design was "iconic," slayed in a black gown with an exaggerated silhouette around the hips, pairing the style with black sheer opera gloves with floral appliqués and an epic black oversized chapeau made up of tulle fabric and additional floral details.
Also posing in striking style on the Met Gala stairs was songstress Ava Max, who was dressed in "over 6,000 crystals and pearls" in a jaw-dropping ivory column gown with a beautiful tulle train. The dress's off-the-shoulder crystal- and pearl-encrusted top draped over the sheer white long-sleeves whose silver and white beads matched the pearl-covered headpiece.
"Last night was incredible!" Christian captioned an additional photo of Ava, thanking his "great team" that "works hard making couture[-]like clothes" for special events like the Met Gala. "We are proud of the work we did," the luxury designer concluded. "Thank you for the love[.]"
