We Have an Update on Patricia Altschul's $45K Sofa After Craig Conover's Wine Spill
Here's what happened to the Southern Charm matriarch's furniture after Craig caused some memorable damage during a Season 8 dinner party.
Patricia Altschul's lavish parties on Southern Charm often include incredible food, drinks, and decor. However, one of her Season 8 get-togethers was unforgettable for an entirely different reason: Craig Conover accidentally spilled red wine on her carpet and $45,000 sofa. So, when Craig recently returned to Patricia's home for another "posh" gathering, his first order of business was checking on the status of the living room.
In the clip above, which is a preview of Season 9, Episode 7, Craig asks Whitney Sudler-Smith, who was hosting the evening, "Am I allowed in this room again?" to which he responds, "Well, your residue is still on the carpet." Although Craig shared in September 2022 that the couch had been taken care of, he was still pleasantly surprised to see it stain-free, telling Whitney, "The fact that it came out of the couch is incredible."
Craig's wine spill and other damage (more on that below) led Whitney to reconsider his general approach to having guests over. "Mom always taught me to be a good host, you should always have hors d'oeuvres [and] cocktails on hand when guests first arrive," he says in the preview of the episode, which airs on October 26. "Except for Craig. F-cking idiot."

In addition to the wine spill during Season 8, Episode 12, Craig also accidentally broke one of Patricia's dining chairs. As the group sat down for dinner that evening, Patricia warned, “Don’t lean back in those chairs, please. They’re 18th century, and I haven’t had them re-glued yet.” However, moments later, Craig admitted, “I accidentally broke the chair that I’m sitting on.”
To Craig’s horror, Patricia shared, “I just paid $25,000 for these chairs.”
It turns out there was even more that viewers didn't see. “In addition to the red wine spill on the white sofa [and] rug, and a broken chair… you didn’t see the demolition of an antique Venetian glass,” Patricia shared in a September 13, 2022, Instagram post, adding the hashtags “dinner from hell” and “love my Craig.”
On a September 2022 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the host asked “Did you get the stain out of the white couch and get the chair fixed?” Although Craig was relieved to share the sofa was fixed, he wasn't as confident about the chairs. As he put it, "They were doomed.”
