Southern Charm’s Patricia Altschul is — and this is an official title — one of “America’s best party hosts.” So you know that means she puts significant thought into each menu she designs for each and every dinner party, paying careful attention to the particular crowd she's assembling for the occasion, of course.

So what does she serve when Northeasterners will be joining her for an evening of southern charm in Charleston?

“For sophisticated New Yorkers," Pat told The New York Times, "I give them fried chicken, collard greens, all the Southern stuff."

Now, when the guest of honor is her own son Whitney Sudler-Smith, it's a different matter.

“When Whitney is in town, there’s a vegetarian chef who makes all kinds of strange things that taste good," she told The Times.

Briefly, Pat tried to join him in the dietary habit — but it didn't go well: Here's what happened when Pat tried to go vegan.
