Tom Checketts Reveals His Biggest Takeaway from the Cucumber Drama with Aesha Scott

Aesha Scott also admitted she saw the Below Deck Med chef "in a completely new light" after this moment.

One of the most heated moments so far this season of Below Deck Mediterranean had to do with, of all things, a cucumber.

No, we're not talking about that little — or should we say rather large — toy a group of charter guests brought on board The Wellington earlier this season. What we're referring to is the moment in the September 14 episode of Below Deck Med when Captain Sandy Yawn woke Tom Checketts up from a nap break after a charter guest requested some cucumbers.

Tom then vented his frustration to Aesha, who happened to walk in shortly after he returned to the galley. "None of it was my fault. I literally had no idea what was going on. We were having our jiujitsu lesson, and then obviously the girls happened to go at that time to ask for a snack, and it was all f--king Captain Sandy. She's the one that went down there and woke Tom up and rah rah," Aesha shared her reaction to the moment in the Below Deck Mediterranean Season 5 After Show, above. "I literally had nothing to do with it. And then I'm the one that has to get the full f--king fury of him."

Aesha said that she "was already trying not to cry" in that moment, but when things got even more tense with the chef after the stew offered to chop an avocado for the guests, she couldn't hold back the tears. "I just went into such a shock that I started crying," Aesha recalled. "I was like, 'I don't know what's happening. What have I done?'"

Tom admitted during the After Show that he misdirected his anger in that instance. "I snapped at Aesha for that, and it's not her fault," Tom said, before noting, "But we all know where cucumbers are kept, more likely than not in the fridge. The knives are on display on a magnet. There's always a chopping board very visibly there, whether it's a chef one or one that the interior use for chopping lemons and limes, so just do it. Yeah, I don't know. It's frustrating anyway."

Aesha said that all of this drama in the galley made her see Tom "in a completely new light." "It just really showed me a side to his personality that I was like this is past just being an a--hole; this is just someone that I don't really want to be around kind of thing," she said. "So from that moment on, I was just like I'm gonna be a professional with this guy, but I don't really want anything to do with him."

The incident also opened Tom's eyes. "I mean, what can I say? Clearly, I'm the only person on the boat that can chop a cucumber," he said. "That's pretty much what I get from it."

Check out full clip above to find out what Malia White had to say about how her boyfriend, Tom, handled this situation. And keep watching the rest of this week's installment of the After Show to hear how this "miscommunication" happened in the first place.
