João Franco Reveals What Really Bothered Him About Anastasia Surmava's Promotion to Chef
The Below Deck Mediterranean bosun's fiery reaction actually had something to do with another crew member.
What's been going on in the galley has definitely been making a lot of waves this season of Below Deck Mediterranean. Following Mila Kolomeitseva's departure from Sirocco, Captain Sandy Yawn decided to promote third stew Anastasia Surmava to chef.
However, not everyone was happy with the Below Deck Med boss' decision. João Franco questioned Anastasia's culinary skills and ability to handle the job as a luxury yacht chef during the crew's night out in Monday night's episode of Below Deck Med. She stormed off from the table visibly upset by João's comments at the end of the episode.
So, why was João so against Anastasia stepping into the galley? The Below Deck Med bosun explained during Tuesday night's Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that he didn't like how Anastasia's promotion also affected the deck team since Travis Michalzik was brought in to assist in the galley after Mila was let go as well. "With her being in the galley, she also took Travis," João said (clip above). "So that was hard for us because he was our strongest deckhand."
But, yes, João said he also wasn't sure that Anastasia's cooking would be up to luxury yacht standards. "I've had amazing and incredible chefs, so you can get away with one or two amazing charters," he explained. "And I was just worried she wouldn't be able to hold the pressure by herself."
As for Anastasia, she made it clear on Instagram that she has no time for haters.
