Andy Cohen Shares Some Never-Before-Seen Moments From the Day Son Ben Was Born
The WWHL first-time dad shared, "I was in and out of tears most of the day."
Last year at this time, Andy Cohen had just become a first-time father to son Benjamin Allen Cohen. The Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen host welcomed Ben via surrogate on February 4, 2019. And while we know that Andy was over-the-moon about bringing his baby boy in to the world, we hadn't heard much about the specifics of the day Ben was born — until now.
To commemorate Ben's first birthday, Andy posted a series of Instagram Stories detailing the day he was born. "Exactly a year ago, I waited in the hospital for the arrival of my son with my best friend Bruce and my incredible surrogate (she took this pic)..." he wrote alongside a photo of himself and a (possibly sleeping) Bruce Bozzi.
He continued, "I was so nervous, and so emotional. I was in & out of tears most of the day."
And while Andy was in California preparing for Ben's birth, back in NYC, the WWHL crew was also anticipating his arrival. "My WWHL team — waiting for news in NYC — texted me this pic of them with doll-babies... and it made me heave with tears... sweetest pic ever."
And then the big news: "At 6:30 PM, Ben arrived... and everything changed," he wrote. He also noted how grateful he was to have bestie Bruce (and Ben's godfather) by his side. "I'd been in the hospital with Bruce for the birth of my goddaughter ten years earlier... and he was there with me for the birth of his godson..."
Andy concluded the emotional tribute by showing his support for legalizing surrogacy in New York, a topic he's spoken out about before. "Families come in all forms... And I'm grateful to my surrogate for helping make mine a reality. I'm also hopeful we can make surrogacy legal in New York state so other couples & LGBTQ fam can have the same experience."
