Malia White Reveals Where She Stands with Captain Sandy Yawn Today

Captain Sandy Yawn and Malia White haven’t worked on the same ship since Below Deck Mediterranean Season 6, but their friendship is still in a good place.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen back in July 2022, Sandy shared that she was “still in contact” with the former bosun. She also confirmed on the Below Deck Med Season 7 premiere that Malia had been busy working as a chief officer on another vessel — and she ended up working with Season 6 chief stew Katie Flood again.

On the February 27 episode of her podcast, Total Ship Show, the bosun revealed that she has only positive things to say about her former-boss-turned-friend.

“I love Captain Sandy. I love her, absolutely. I admire her — she’s what made me want to get in the industry, like stick in it,” Malia told guest Katie Flood about how meaningful it was for her to get to work with a female captain.

Malia certainly has stuck with the yachting industry, and she has continued to rise through the ranks since she last appeared on Below Deck Med. On January 30, Malia revealed on Instagram that, after a “stressful studying period,” she had passed an exam to officially become an Officer of the Watch.

In addition to sharing some of her professional accomplishments, Malia also opened up recently about the latest in her personal life.

While chatting with Showbiz CheatSheet in February, Malia confirmed that she had split up with her boyfriend of about two years, Jake Baker. As Below Deck Med fans may remember, Jake was the engineer on board the Season 6 vessel, Lady Michelle, though he rarely appeared on the show.

“So, obviously, I’m single,” she told the outlet, noting that she’s going to try to “choose wisely” if she ever decides to date another yachtie.
