Conrad Empson Shares What Really "Shocked" Him About *That* 50 Euro Moment with Hannah Ferrier

Is Conrad Empson's relationship with Hannah Ferrier over before we even got to come up with a cute couple name for them (Connah? Hanrad?)? That's what it looked like in Tuesday night's episode of Below Deck Mediterranean, at least.

Hannah and Conrad had their first real fight as a couple after the bosun asked the chief stew to reimburse him for 50 euros (clip above). What followed was a heated conversation about what matters most in a partner and the future of their relationship, culminating in Conrad calling it quits with Hannah. "In my eyes, I'd never choose money over happiness ever, and for the way she reacted to that, I'd say her priorities are completely different to mine," Conrad said of the moment during an interview with The Daily Dish earlier this season. 

Conrad recently explained to Decider what the 50 euros were all about in the first place. "How this thing came around was, I was running low on cigarettes, so I was going to get more. Obviously we have our tip money but I don’t like to indulge in that so I just use the money in my wallet. I asked Hannah, 'Do you want me to buy a carton of cigarettes for you?' I was going to get some and I could buy some for you and you’ll give the money back to me later. 'Yeah, yeah, sure, that’s not [a] problem at all.' I went and got it," he said. "This [incident] happened two days later. We were going out on a night out as you saw, and I got my wallet and there was no cash in it and it reminded me so I said to her, 'Hey, just while I remember, if you have the 50 euros, you owe it to me.' It was a non-aggressive, simple conversation. And then she took the 50 euros out of her purse and threw it down to me on the floor. In my head at the time it didn’t click, the way she threw it down to the floor. I thought about that later, like, 'That was a little bit degrading.' But I didn’t really think about it, it was later on that it kind of blew up."

The Below Deck Med bosun went on to say that Hannah's body language and her bringing up the M3 gift from her ex-boyfriend in the car ride on the way to the crew's night out made him realize there might be a bigger issue here. "In my eyes, if you owe someone money, you owe them money, no matter if you’re girlfriend or boyfriend or whatever, everything is equal and should be split. She had a different opinion on that one," Conrad said. "I get it if you’re getting a gift for someone but it was the arrangement from the outset that I would buy it for her and she would give me the money back. I’m not tight at all, but if you say something you’re gonna do it." 

Conrad also shared what surprised him the most about that night with Hannah. "The fact that she completely put it out there that she is with guys for their money sometimes, shocked me. And the fact that she had the bollocks to say it out loud, was pretty impressive to say the least," he said. "I’ve got my own set of morals, I don’t know about anyone else, but it kind of shocked me."
