Captain Sandy Yawn got a big surprise on her birthday. The Below Deck and Below Deck Mediterranean boss spent her special day with her love, Leah Rae Shafer, and a chef that Bravo fans will recognize. Here’s a hint: He can whip up an around-the-world dinner and climb Mount Everest.
Sandy paged all her followers in a February 23 Instagram post. “Today is my birthday and look who surprised me for lunch!” she wrote. The accompanying photo showed Sandy and Leah posing with — drumroll, please — Dave White.
The Below Deck Med Season 7 chef was all smiles in the pic — and who wouldn’t be on a sunny-skied, palm-tree-flecked day in February? Sandy’s caption continued, “[Chef Dave White] thank you for joining us! And thank you Leah my love for making this day so special.”
In his Stories, Dave shared a photo of himself and Sandy. “Happy Birthday [Captain Sandy] the boss lady,” he wrote. Though the gang didn’t specify where the birthday lunch took place, Leah did share videos from a patio at The Setai Miami Beach. The five-star hotel has a restaurant called Ocean Grill. What could be more perfect?
Dave isn’t the only yachtie who wished Sandy a happy birthday. In her Instagram Stories, Below Deck Season 10 deckhand Katie Glaser jumped aboard the love ship. Sharing two photos of herself and the captain, Katie penned a heartfelt tribute to her former boss.
“Happy birthday to such an incredible woman who I look up to,” the yachtie wrote. “[I] couldn’t be more honored to have her as one of my captains on [Below Deck]! Have an amazing birthday [Captain Sandy].”
Below Deck Med alum Malia White also shared a sweet message for Sandy. “Happy birthday [Captain Sandy]!!” she wrote in an Instagram Story. “Hope you and Leah have fun celebrating! Love you guys!”
Malia’s hopes came true. In Sandy’s Instagram Stories, Leah filled followers in on the celebration. “It’s [Sandy’s] birthday,” she said. “We’re gonna go on a boat ride, we’re gonna go on a barbecue, and we ate too many sweets today.”
Later, Sandy shared footage from her sunset cruise. On this charter, all she had to do was soak up the love. The captain filmed all her friends wishing her a happy birthday, as well as a sweet serenade from Leah.
