Kate Chastain's relationship with her girlfriend, Ro, is getting the seal of approval from her fellow yachties. Below Deck Mediterranean's Ben Robinson and Bobby Giancola, who have been longtime friends with the Below Deck Chief Stew, have the inside scoop on the happy couple — and now they are revealing all to The Daily Dish.
"I met her. She's a sweetheart," Bobby said. "Her girlfriend's [a] very surfer, skater [type]. And she's actually going to go to fire school. They contacted me about where you can go to get a grant for fire school. So I helped her out [since I'm a fire fighter], and I said, 'Just let me know anytime you need any help.' I think she's Brazilian. She's tall. She's cool. They seem to get along pretty well. I've only hung out with them a couple times since they've been together. Kate dated one of my friends, god, 10 years ago probably."
Being that Bobby has known Kate for a long, long time, he was "a little bit" surpirsed to hear about her relationship with a woman. "But, come on, it's 2016 all kinds of crazy s***'s happening nowadays," he added.
Kate's former fling, Ben, is also all about the Kate-Ro romance. "I think it’s great. I obviously want Kate to be happy. It’s obviously a little bit strange late on to change your sexuality, I guess, at the age of 32," he told The Daily Dish. "I’m very happy for them. I like her girlfriend. She’s obviously a superstar. She’s a pro-athlete, soccer player. A very special, a very positive person. I think it’s great. I’m very happy for them and it’s kind of fun to watch. It’s nice."
Fans have seen Kate's hard work on Below Deck, but they may wonder if she brings the same focused mentality to her life when the cameras aren't rolling. Turns out, she's a bit more relaxed on land. "She's totally mellow. She's real chill and she's great. She'll come up to you and if you come up to her, she's open and will talk to you," Bobby said. "The whole bitchy resting face — she's not a bitch. She has dry humor, which is hilarious. She's just an easy-going chick. She's cool.”
