Brandon Maxwell Has the Best Advice for His Younger Self: "Just Chill Out"
The Project Runway judge shares his sage wisdom for newbie designers.
Brandon Maxwell is an A-list fashion designer, stylist, and, of course, has such a keen eye for all things style that he uses his skills weekly as a judge on Project Runway.
But much like the up-and-coming designers he offers up critiques of on Project Runway, there was a time when Brandon was still rising up the ranks of the world of fashion before dressing some of the biggest names out there. When he spoke to The Daily Dish previously, he opened up about the words of wisdom he would share with that younger version of himself.
And, honestly, it's advice that would apply to any of our lives.
"The best advice that I would give myself? Hmm, just chill out. Seriously, chill," he said at Bravo HQ last year. "It's a lot, especially when you're starting. But I think designers now have so much more access to information to understand that everything could be OK."
From there, Brandon reflected on his own beginnings. "When I was starting, there was like dial-up [internet]. How was I supposed to know what was out in the world?" he said, joking, "I had to literally wait for my sister to get off the frickin' phone to maybe get 13 minutes on AOL to learn about whatever, who was designing whatever. Now people, just one click away. The kids have no idea what they have now. Seriously, they really don't."
Make sure you tune into Brandon in all his superstar-ness today every Thursday at 9/8c on Project Runway. Check out more from Brandon and the rest of the Project Runway crew, below.
