Bugsy Drake Reveals the Below Deck Med Moment That Caused "Tension" with Alex Radcliffe

After noticing some flirtation among Bugsy Drake and Alex Radcliffe, Aesha Scott asked the two during dinner if there was any "sexual tension" between them. Bugsy said there was "no sexual tension," but Alex expressed different feelings. "Well, I mean, maybe she thinks that way, but I like Bugs on an actual level," he shared.

Bugsy's apparent disagreement with his statement made Alex sarcastically conclude, "Well, that's not awkward."

However, Bugsy explained during the Below Deck Mediterranean Season 5 After Show that Aesha's question had caught her off-guard.

"I just felt like it doesn't really need to be something that's discussed at the table. I think Aesha is sometimes the Queen of Inappropriateness, pushes people out of their comfort zones quite a bit. But at that point, I think I was just really tired. We had come out of charter. Alex and I felt like we were in a good space, and then all of a sudden this question. Like, we hadn't even discussed this," she said. "It wasn't really something I'd ever thought about, so I just felt like it was wrong time, wrong place to have that question asked. Even still, if it was asked in the right time and right place, I think it's a really personal thing. It's not something I'd really be able to answer in front of the whole crew."

What's more, Bugsy said that the question "caused quite a bit of tension" for her and Alex — and not the kind of "sexual tension" Aesha was asking about. "He was like, 'I just embarrassed myself by saying yes and you said no, so that's embarrassing for me,'" Bugsy recalled of Alex's reaction to the moment.

Alex explained that he and Bugsy may have just interpreted Aesha's question differently. "I don't know if Aesha meant sexual tension meaning like, 'You guys want to hook up.' I took it as the way, like I'm into this person," he said in the After Show. "Maybe [Bugsy] took it in away that she thought it was a sex question, and I took it the other way."

It was Bugsy's reaction — of lack thereof — that really disappointed Alex. "If you're embarrassed to talk in front of people, but it was just like the silence, that was a slap in the face," he said.

In fact, Alex said that Bugsy seemed more expressive with her feelings when no one else was watching. "She comes over next to me at dinner, she was trying to hold my hand afterwards. It was like, 'Oh, I'm sorry, this and that.' It's like, it's fine. I wasn't mad; it was just awkward that I got put on the spot, and I say it and you're just like, 'Uh, whatever,'" Alex said. "You can whisper things to me, but when it comes to the spotlight, [those are] the things that I thought about."
