The Real Housewives of Potomac ladies' night at the winery took a turn that no one saw coming — including Candiace Dillard Bassett and Monique Samuels.

During a special bonus episode of The Daily Dish podcast, Candiace recalled the night winding down after most of the discussion had really centered on Ashley Darby's relationship following some recent headlines about her husband, Michael Darby. "And honestly, when Monique and I started going back and forth, we were getting ready to wrap up. That was like the end," Candiace shared during the September 28 episode of The Daily Dish podcast. "We were getting ready to leave. And I remember Karen [Huger] walking over to get her purse. I remember Gizelle [Bryant] and Robyn [Dixon] had walked to the right of me to get their coats. Ashley eventually went to the bathroom. I say that to underscore again how unexpected all of this was."

Candiace said that she believes Monique "was looking for an opportunity to engage with" her as the tension between them had been building up all season. However, Monique said during a separate interview with The Daily Dish podcast in a special bonus episode published on September 29 that the conflict with Candiace also caught her off-guard that night. "One action led to the next. I was in no way, shape, or form anticipating that in that moment this is gonna turn physical," Monique said. "I just want the fans to know that this wasn’t something that was premeditated; this was something that was based off of energy being returned. And it just turned into something just very ugly."

Monique said that she regrets things getting to that level. "I just wish that none of it ever happened. I wish that when I felt triggered I was aware enough of myself to just walk away," she said. "And we learn. I just wish it just never got out of hand."

Candiace also never wanted things to escalate the way they did between her and Monique. "I really didn’t want it to become an argument. And I wish still to this day that I had not engaged her as I had really done in every previous instance where she was trying to start an argument," she explained. "And I wish I had just walked away."

Monique and Candiace open up more about that night at the winery on The Daily Dish podcast, including the aftermath of the altercation, how their families reacted to the incident, and if they've talked to each other since.
