Wait, Kate Chastain and Captain Lee Rosbach Didn't Always Get Along?
It took some time for the #BelowDeck boss to become the chief stew's "adopted father."
Mary Richards and Lou Grant. Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy. Leslie Knope and Ron Swanson. These are just some of the iconic employee-boss friendships that have warmed our hearts on TV over the years.
Well, after four seasons of Below Deck, we can definitely add Kate Chastain and Captain Lee Rosbach to the list. Through thick and thin, a rocket ship blanket debacle, and a fire in the galley, Captain Lee and Kate have always had each other's backs. They even miss each other even when they're not working together.
However, it wasn't friendship at first sight, according to Kate. "Captain Lee and I, it's so funny, like I don't think we really connected at all my first season, and I didn't particularly enjoy working for him," Kate told The Daily Dish (clip above). "The first season that I worked for Captain Lee, we really didn't interact that much besides preference sheet meetings. And then I think the blanket thing really threw him for a loop and freaked him out, so I can't really blame him there. But I think after my first season, he trusted me, and we were able to kind of arrive at a friendship."
As we saw that when Captain Lee gave Kate a big hug when she boarded the Valor to begin this season of Below Deck, things are quite different these days. "We just clicked, and now he is like my yachting adopted father, and his wife is like my yachting adopted mother," Kate gushed. "They call me once a week, they check in, every time in Lauderdale, they want to take me to dinner. They're adorable."
Captain Lee also previously told The Daily Dish that he and Kate keep in touch and talk on the phone about once a week even when they're not on charter. "Kate and I get along really well. We both know we can speak frankly with one another without fear of hurting each other’s feelings or that sort of thing. We can say what’s on our mind because we respect each other in that way," he said. "So it just makes things a whole lot easier."
Any way we could score an invite to your next get-together?
Unfortunately, it has not been as smooth sailing for Kate and her longtime friend Ben Robinson this season of Below Deck. Find out why their relationship has changed, below.
