RHONY Alum Heather Thomson Reacts to Dorinda Medley Leaving the Show

The Real Housewives of New York Cityalum explains why it can be good to "take a break."

Dorinda Medley announced her exit from The Real Housewives of New York City last month, and RHONY alum Heather Thomson thinks she is doing what's best for her.

How to Watch

Heather shared her reaction to Dorinda's departure during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen: @ Home on September 10. "I think sometimes to take a little bit of a break is important. The Housewives is taxing. There's a lot that goes on, and it's a lot of work, and it's emotional. It's real, it's not a scripted show, and the emotions that happen, whether they're turned up or dialed in a little bit, are a lot," Heather explained. "So, to take a break — and I'm one to say it — you know, take a break and just kind of sit back will always serve her well, I'm sure."

Heather appeared as a cast member on RHONY for three seasons starting in Season 5. Her final season, Season 7, was Dorinda's first season on the show.

Dorinda announced that she would be leaving RHONY in a post on Instagram on August 25.

"What a journey this has been. I have laughed and cried and tried to Make it Nice... But all things must come to an end. This was a great outlet for me to heal when my late husband Richard passed away. I have met so many interesting people and learned so much about myself, about life and about women along the way," she wrote in a post that featured a photo of her on the set of the RHONY Season 12 reunion. "Thank you to Bravo and NBC for the incredible ride and to my cast mates for constant stimulation and entertainment. I wish you all health, happiness and success. Clip! Dorinda."

She promptly received an outpouring of support from New York Housewives past and present, as well as from Andy Cohen.

Dorinda's first major post-RHONY project was revealed at the end of the Season 12 finale. She is currently working on a book called Making it Nice, Making it Through.
