Dr. Contessa Metcalfe Claps Back at Dr. Heavenly Kimes' "Woman's Place" Comments
"Heavenly is the exact opposite of a domestic goddess," Dr. Contessa said.
Dr. Contessa Metcalfe didn't exactly get the pep talk she was hoping for when she sat down with Dr. Heavenly Kimes to discuss a stressful time in her relationship with Dr. Scott Metcalfe in the latest episode of Married to Medicine.
The doctor and mother of three opened up to her friend about the heated moment she recently experienced with her husband after coming home to Atlanta from Nashville, where she is working to get a degree in public health this season. "You've got to take care of the marriage," Dr. Heavenly said during the episode. "It's God, it's family, then it's everything else."
Dr. Heavenly asked Dr. Contessa, "A woman's place is where?" She then answered her own question, "With her children."
Dr. Contessa was taken aback by Dr. Heavenly's statement, especially since the dentist is such a successful, career-driven woman herself. "You don't believe the words that just came out of your own mouth," Dr. Contessa said in an interview during the episode. "Heavenly is the exact opposite of a domestic goddess. I mean, she's ambitious, she's smart, and she definitely does not sit at home waiting for a man to bring home the bacon."
Dr. Contessa had more to say on the moment in a video she posted on Instagram prior to the episode airing on Sunday night. "By the way, Dr. Heavenly asked me a really, really important question. She asked me: 'Where is a woman's place?'" she said in the video.
"In a white coat?" Dr. Contessa's 9-year-old son, Landon, said as he handed the lab coat to his mom.
All shade aside, Dr. Contessa then had a very important message for anyone raising a daughter. "And so if you're not encouraging your daughters to focus on science, technology, engineering, and math as hard as you're forcing them to become domestic goddesses, then boys like this won't be looking for women like the one you're raising, ain't that right?" she said. "Because this is what a woman looks like, ain't that right, baby?"
Dr. Heavenly showed her appreciation for the message in the comments to Dr. Contessa's Instagram post, giving it an "amen!" Quad Webb also praised Dr. Contessa's message in the comments, "C'mon through STEM!"
Dr. Contessa will be there to teach her daughter Lauren some more important lessons in an all-new episode of Married to Medicine Sunday at 9/8c. Watch a preview, below.
