Drew Barrymore Had the Best Apology for Jake Gyllenhaal After Calling Him Her "Least Talented" Co-Star
The Santa Clarita Diet actress put her foot in her mouth during The Late Late Show With James Corden.
As Kim Kardashian can attest, it's not easy playing "Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts" on The Late Late Show With James Corden. The reality star once drank a sardine smoothie to protect her family's secrets, since the premise of the game asks guests to either spill some tea or eat a gnarly dish. On March 21, it was Drew Barrymore's turn to play the stomach-turning game.
The Charlie's Angels actress was put in an unenviable position in which she had to either rank her least talented former co-stars or down turkey testicles. Mind you: this was after she had already sipped on bird saliva.
After telling Barrymore to rank Adam Sandler, Hugh Grant, and Jake Gyllenhaal as most to least talented, the actress put Gyllenhaal in the "least talented" category. "The next time I see him, I'm going to say, 'Dude, it was either selling you down the river, or eating turkey's balls,'" Barrymore shared.
But as it turns out, she did her actor pal one better than that. After The Late Late Show moment went viral, Barrymore made the sweetest effor to apologize to Gyllenhaal. When she walked the red carpet at the season two premiere of her Netflix show Santa Clarita Diet, the actress toted a sign that read: "I [heart] Jake Gyllenhaal."
Speaking to reporters about the sweet sign, Barrymore said: "Well I mean, he helped me get out of eating a turkey testicle so that was the point. It was very sweet and light-hearted, and very full of [explanation about] how much I feel bad for saying this and how if I see him next time I’m going to explain it ... And then of course the world turns completely, I’m sorry, but shallow, and it’s all headlines about how I think he’s the least talented person ... I’m like, ‘Does anyone understand f—–g context?’ And you know they’re not going to take the time to read the small print because we live in a goddamn ADD, two-second society. So this is me setting the goddamn record straight. It’s my premiere and I’m making it about him just so he knows everything is okay."
