Does Gwyneth Paltrow Regret Using the Phrase "Conscious Uncoupling"?
"It wasn't my words, actually," the actress turned entrepreneur explained on TODAY.
Gwyneth Paltrow nearly broke the Internet when she and Chris Martin announced their separation in a blog post titled "Conscious Uncoupling" on her lifestyle website Goop in late March 2014. Now nearly two years after the split, Gwyneth still can't believe the uproar that ensued over her use of that phrase. "I unwittingly created a whole sort of hoopla with my choice of words," Gwyneth told Matt Lauer on TODAY Friday (clip below). "It wasn't my words, actually. I was sort of following a theory."
That "theory" Gwyneth is referring to was actually created by therapist Katherine Woodward Thomas to help couples peacefully break up. As it turns out, Gwyneth wasn't even the one who titled the blog post "Conscious Uncoupling." Goop's editorial director Elise Loehnen did, as Gwyneth described to Fast Company last August.
But however you want to officially label Gwyneth's split from Chris, these days, it sounds like it can only be described as happy. "We're a family. Even though we're not in a romantic relationship, we're a true family and we like to do things to reinforce that we're a family, for the children and for each other," Gwyneth said on TODAY. "He's like my brother. I'm very close to him."
Gwyneth even brought her and Chris' children, daughter Apple and son Moses, to see their dad perform during the Super Bowl Halftime Show last month. "They were so proud of him, and it was such a gorgeous performance and very uplifting," Gwyneth said. "They were thrilled. They were very proud."
Aside from being a mom, Gwyneth is busy expanding her Goop empire. The company just launched a new skincare line, Goop by Juice Beauty.
Unfortunately, that means we probably won't see her return to acting anytime soon, but we shouldn't completely lose hope either. "We took some investment last year, so as soon as we had other people's money, I realized I really better focus on this completely," Gwyneth told Matt. "So I'll return to acting probably, but probably not right now."
Luckily, we'll always have Gwyneth playing Plead the Fifth on Watch What Happens Live to entertain us.
