This Collaboration is the Stuff Preppy Workout Dreams Are Made Of
Two of your favorite brands got married and had a baby with this line of workout gear.
You know when two of your best friends get married and you’re so excited? And then they have a baby and you feel like you’re about to have a euphoric breakdown? Well, that’s how I felt when I first perused the J. Crew x New Balance collaboration that dropped this month. Blending the best of both brands—J. Crew’s patterns and colors and New Balances materials and know-how—the line completely pivots from au courant workout gear in dizzying patterns and blinding hues. The result is blend of navy-and-white stripes and polka dots, bursts of hot orange and heathered grey, and crisp, clean color blocking—in other words, it’s pure J. Crew. But with the performance New Balance is known for.
While patterns are important, fit is everything. The tops are structured but with a looseness that I appreciate (Read: no back fat peeking out), and the pants are on par with the high-end brands out there and super thick (Read: they remain opaque even when I’m in downward-facing dog).
I’m also loving the collection’s ad campaign, which was shot with real-life, fitness-loving women like Muy Thai boxer Gracie Cavalho, Soul Cycle instructor Taye Johnson and The Class founder Taryn Toomey.
Prices range from $15 to $200, and the collection is comprised tanks, shorts, leggings, sports bras, pullovers and sneakers. (And, headbands and long-sleeves—you get the picture.) Here’s five of my favorite pieces, all of which are available now and can be worn the second you get your hot little hands on them.
